It’s romance and fantasy, fantasy and romance
Of course it’s a romance and I imagine regular readers of the genre know what to expect. I can’t remember the last time I read any. No, I didn’t read 50 Shades of Grey or Twilight and I don’t know why I’m reading this.Sometimes even the silliest of reading has an interesting snippet or two. I’m not sure if there’s mainstream recognition that Vikingr (yup, that’s the actual plural) spread red hair but I noticed a one sentence mention of it and appreciate it.When I was 75% through I realized that these are soap operas and every set of 3 books could be one. >shrug< I can’t see myself making it through 70 some books but I guess they’re still selling.

Absolutely love this series
My third time reading this series, up to 70 books now, but with each set of three books is a different couple. This first set of three is about Kian and Syssi, the next three is about Kian's sister and her man I think. The series doesn't get bogged down with the same main characters front and center. Past characters are still in the storyline but every couple of books you get fresh folks and new adventures. I especially like the deep history spin, namely from the Sumerian gods aspects. There's plenty of stories out there from the Greek gods but this storyline has its hooks into me! I'm having a love/hate relationship with the cliffhangers but that's what a great author is supposed to do, you don't realize it's at the 'to be continued' point until you're there. If you're looking for a new author with plenty to offer, then definitely give this series a try, especially if you have KU (you have nothing to lose!)

Adventure, Intrigue & Sexy
I'm not typically drawn to male dominance, or as Syssi referred to it, a gorilla pounding on his chest (something like that), but I have to admit, I found this book intriguing and Kian was very appealing. While I'm more likely to be attracted to Anandur in reality, this story wasn't about him, it was a masterfully seductive build up between the inevitable romance between Kian & Syssi. While the battle between the Clans of warring Gods is in the forefront of the first half of the book, it takes a backseat in the second half. I hope we get more of that storyline in the next book.

Love this series!
I look forward to the release of every book in this series. The plot changes to quickly from character to character that I never get bored. I always look forward to the early release so I can get caught back up. I like reading the pre-release chapters so I know what to look forward to. I re-read them when the book is released. My only complaint is that you're only one person and can't churn these out faster! When I first started this series it seemed that there was an unending supply of material, but since I've been caught up it's so frustrating to wait for the next book! I've also read all the shorter series written in conjunction with this. Please keep up the good work. I LOVE these books!

Intriguing, sexy, and well-written
i started reading this PNR series late in 2017 and was instantly hooked! The series contained quite a number of books at that point, although nothing near the present total of 72. I devoured those titles already in the series, falling in love with the characters of Kian and Syssi from the beginning, in Dark Stranger, the Dream. I highly recommend!

Dark Stranger, The Dream -Good Read!
I started reading The Children of the Gods series and could not put it down. Isabell Lucas is not only a great writer but she creates a visual read as well. I have read non-stop and just finished book 71. She keeps you wanting to go down the perverbial rabbits trail to see what happens next. I hope to see more stories about these characters future lives going forward. Thanks for giving this retiree something to look forward to every day! Darlene

Love paranormal romance?
I’m always on the look out for good new writers to follow, and this could have been a good story as the ‘bones’ of it showed loads of promise. What ruined it for me was, the writer introduced too many characters far too soon in the story, not only that but she went on and on in extreme detail describing how beautiful they all were to the point that, she ‘drowned out’ most of the story with it and it just became…. well, boring. I absolutely hate it when the writer ‘pads out’ the story so much that you end up skimming to find the plot to the story that’s worth reading, and that’s what I ended up doing with most of this book. Usually writers that do this drone on in incredible detail about the clothes that the character is wearing i.e. the designer and the type of fabric, colour, hue, print etc. or the wall paper, chintz fabric, colours and design and type of furniture. It’s all padding and yes, you need to ‘set the stage’ but not for pages after pages that, by 60% in, you think oh, finally the actual start of the story, only to find that, nope, more boring padding. That amount information/description just makes it become more paraphernalia than actual necessary to the storyline plot and should have been cut out and just dotted in now and again to give the read a idea of representation for their imagination to depict, not chapter after chapter of what amounts to, loads of characters with ‘fabulous shiny manes and amazing lustrous skin and what they like to wear’. It’s not necessary at that point, that kind of info should be injected in when they are pulled heavily into the plot. It’s just too much; you just end up skimming lines or nodding off. I get the impression from reading the synopsis on the continuing sagas in this series that it pretty much carries on in the same vane, which is a pity, as I’d have bought the next book in the hopes that the writer has improved her style.

Paranormal romance (ish)
No plot spoilers (there isn't much so no danger there. No potential triggers. There are no grammatical or editorial errors.Which is why I have given four stars, but the series seriously isn't for me.The amount of world building is minimal (it's set in reality, but surely a little more detail would have been beneficial to the storyline)The characterisation isn't the strongest, I was 80% through the book before I felt any affinity to the ML, Kian and began to see some characteristics I could empathise with although he is a truly one dimensional character. The FL, Sissy (awful name for a main character, I couldn't take her seriously) is so twee it hurts my teeth. A paragon of virtue with a dirty mind should have been a hell of a character, sadly all she does is dream dirty dreams and spend every waking hour behaving like a Victorian maiden blushing at her own thoughts, frequently. There is a huge amount of tell and not enough show, no action, no real intrigue, just constant vacilation with both main characters constantly pondering on having sex with each other and deciding it's not a good idea. I believe the intent is to build sexual tension but I swear, it's just boring.I honestly do like paranormal romance/thrillers, but I do think it has to include a storyline that evolves in the first book and not simply setting the scene for the next two.I hate leaving such a poor review especially when the author has ensured the book is fit to read grammatically but I can't say with any enthusiasm that the book is good and I won't be purchasing the next in the series.

Enjoyed the book - loved the concept
Kian - a 2,000-year-old descendant of a line of gods.Syssi - a paranormal perceptive, who might be a dormant and therefore able to breed with those descendands and carry on the line.A refreshing take on aliens, other species, human myths and lore and how it all intermingles.I mostly enjoyed this book and I loved the concept. The author has obviously got copious knowledge and interest in various fields, which she works conceptually into her book.Downside? There is too much telling and little showing.Having said that, though: the story makes more than up for it.Will definitely reading more of this author. It's not JR Ward, but it's a world in its own right, with its own creatures and rules. Don't be fooled - aliens are no vampires.

A good writer who has sold out
Such a disappointment. This 5th of a book has done me a favour. I will not buy 99p fiction again. What used to be a platform for new writers to get their work out there has turned into a sell out of damaged masterpieces. I used to love buying paperbacks for £8 - £10 and did not think that it was too expensive. I will be going back to this. Padding out you creations with unnecessary, romanticized, repeated blurb is boring. And any reader who tells you different is not a reader. We all like steamy sex scenes but not when they r constantly damaging the flow of the book. I feel like I have just purchased the equivalent of a prostitute instead of getting a boyfriend. Please don't even get me started on the 'part works for profit' and 'free to all who subscribe to kindle unlimited' angle. I understand that writers need to make a living but this would be too high a price for me. My only advice to this writer is, if you are allowed to now after selling out to Kindle, reissue this next time as about 12 books just with the storyline and get your integrity back.

Not a full story, only the first 3rd of a book.
I'm fed up of books that are broken down into 3 books just so you have to buy them all, just sell me the whole book. There is a difference between a series of books and just chopping one book up which is what was done here.If like me you want a book where you actually get to finish the character's story you will not enjoy this book. That said and to be fair I did enjoy this first third of a book even though there were too many characters introduced to quickly. I would love to have read more but I'm not buying the rest of the book out of principal.
