Energies and Raw Emotions leaping out of the page.
Some might say: `Saw this coming a mile off', ever since she's arrived on Earth Kara has had to put up with being shot at, thumped, imprisoned, lied to and in consequences losing a friend to circumstances and that in addition to learning her father had drugged her and sent her off into space just prior to Krypton blowing up.( which incidentally she has to travel back in time to make sure it happens)Small wonder the girl is on a bit of a short-fuse.And ideal home for a Red Lantern ring. She gets tipped over the edge when Lobo, a rather stylish version of H'el comes to Earth looking for the fellow. It appears Lobo feels H'el is an imposter and want to have words with him, not being quite up to date with the situation. Needless to say paths cross, punches and such are traded and Kara has really had enough and along comes the Red Ring.At this stage it should be pointed out some knowledge of recent events of the Red Lanterns would be useful as events in this book take place against the backdrop of those in .Minor spoilers will arise...The volume itself crackles with ideas. There is the main story of Kara's induction into and bonding with a group of Red Lanterns led by Guy Gardener, who in turn is trying to be responsible (not easy for a Red Lantern) over Kara. Their grand combat with the fanatically violent lizard-like Diasporans whose leader turns out to be (spoiler....) World Killer 1. Kara's own battle for her sanity and soul. Business in `The Block' with other-dimensional demonic being Blaze. Siobhan is back both as herself and Silver Banshee and is becoming linked up with some shady and possibly irresponsible flat-mate. Current problems of The Green Lanterns and the Red Lanterns schism are also brought into the narrative. Oh by the way both Lobo and Blaze are still hanging around, while (spoiler.....) Gen13 are waiting in the wings for the next volumeIt says much for the style of writing and plotting that all these separate themes and sub-plots are woven in with very little in the way of jarring and thus makes for a fascinating kaleidoscope. The one quibble being that of late DC are big on having Kara's life interact with events in other books. In this volume, here requiring the reader to have or the relevant single issues. Without giving too much away there is a major event in that volume not shown here, so one page Kara is `here' doing `that', next page she is `where?' and `why?. If you have been following just Supergirl you will have had similar experiences in and Anyway it says much for the quality of the tale that this is just a `quibble' and not a disaster. The art is of the highest quality action erupting out of the pages while Kara's displays of anger are positively tangible, highlighting the sheer weight of injustice dropped on this youngster's shoulders. If you've been following Kara's adventures this one comes highly recommended. Far too much back-story in previous volumes to start here though

An interesting take and look at a fan favourite. Nice to see Supergirl's innate rage and helpless frustration handled sensibly without belittling the character

The red mist raising
The storyline is good as far as it goes, the art work is good. The only problem I had with this story is towards the end there seems to be a whole chunk of the storyline missing. I am guessing it is probobly covered in Red Lanterns vol 5. I know I can't have everything but it was annoying to have to track down another series. After the events oh H'EL on Earth and Krypton Returnes, Kara Zor EL, have been either manipulated, betrayed, or alienated from everyone. Needing a friend she is instead pointed as a weapon when Lobo comes calling, finally pushing her over the edge, Kara attracts the attention of a Red Ring. How will Guy Gardener and the Red Lantern Corps handle a out of control, flame welding teenage Kryptonian? On the other hand could this be just what Kara need, could she finally belong somewhere?

Boring
This took me AAAAAAAGGGGGGESSSSSS to read. The character got off to a great start in the NEW 52, but reading this was like watching the slow death of a friend. New 52 Supergirl is still my favourite incarnation of the character but DC just don't seem to want to do anything with her apart from let her emotions get her into trouble so Superman can come and give her advice. Boring by Volume 5. Some great artwork though.

Fine product. Arrived in crap condition.
The comic is fine, but it arrived with a bent front cover and several edge marks. Some bubblewrap would have prevented this.

The new 52 Supergirl has serious anger issues and in my view, it's the only place (that comic book) where it pays off.

... heard that Supergirl getting a Red ring was an excellent part of an otherwise mediocre series
So I had heard that Supergirl getting a Red ring was an excellent part of an otherwise mediocre series. When I saw this book I had a bit of extra cash, so I decided why not, lets see if it's that good.I've got to say the first half was great, excellent art, good story line, etc. But just when it got to the good part where the 'good' red lanterns and Supergirl where about to fight Atrocious and his group, it skipped to the end of the series and back to Earth. I never got to see what was suppose to be the best part, and I have no idea what trader I need to find the rest.So it gets two stars because the first part is awesome. But it deserves at least a four IF it had the full story, or didn't jump from the start to the end with nothing in between. So disappointing.
