The key to the Counter-Snap screw fastening system is the specially coated scored screw. The score is one inch from the head. When being driven through the Counter-Snap Fixture, the screw head hits the stop on the fixture causing the stress to build until the screw snaps at the score. The fixture stops the score ¼ of an inch below the surface. After the screw snaps there is 2 inches of screw securing the wood together. The hole that is left is easily concealed with wood filler.

Product works as it's designed to do
Broke off as its designed to do below the carpet level...they do get hot to the touch real fast when they hit a hard spot. The square head on the attachment bit gets rounded out after a few hard spots where the head spins and the screw doesn't move...then it doesn't work as well. Overall a very good product.

It works
I followed the nail lines on the floor. The squeaks are mostly gone. Don't expect that it's going to be as quiet as concrete floor though.I discovered no matter what I do, there is tiny bit of squeak that won't go away. But compared to what it was before, I think I'm hearing only 10%. My floors are 90% cured of squeaks.I put in about 80 screws in 14x16 room, which is biggest. Smaller rooms took just as man screws.I spent about 250 screws and I think hallway will take about 50. 500 pack was cheaper way to go but I could see imperfections on the screws. When compared to 50 packs, these 500 pack screws look like they have inferior, rough finish. Time will tell if that's just superficial or not. But in all, I'm happy that the screws quieted the floors down.

These work as described. Very handy. These are made for a tough problem. They work quite well if you can hit the wood stand beneath the squeaks in your floor. If you miss, well....it’s not this product’s fault. 5-Star product, 10 star difficulty level. If you’re not real handy get professional advice.

Counter-snap Screws
These screws worked well on our older home built in the 1950's with hardwood floors and squeaks everywhere. We have installed over 3000 of these screws at this point. Since I abhor unnecessary noise, we used them in every 2.5 inch board on every floor sill crossing. Maybe that would have been overkill for some people, but this was the only method we found to remove any and all squeaks. The bottom line is they work, but take a lot of simple and routine labor time to install.

These work great. The install to is helpful to insert them in the floor, but doesnt always work to break them off. Once i got the hang of it I just knocked the screws sideways with a hammer and the heads came right off. My floor is soooooo much quieter now! I am quite happy with them.

squeek no more
This is an awesome invention. We had terribly squeaky and bouncy floors under our carpet and we needed to do something without tearing up all of the carpet. We saw an add for these screws in "This Old House" and decided to give them a try. So glad we did. It is a bit of work but the results are well worth it.

Work Well
Had heard about these type fasteners and decided to give them a try....bought a starter set and was well satisfied, so I bought a bigger supply to have on hand as I may need them.... the test drill could be a bit stronger for locating trussed with test holes, but after breaking them, I just used the hammer-tap method and it works well.....
