While it is a bit small for most of my repairs, it did work well to keep me on track once I started. I have darned so many of my favorite fat fuzzy socks and a couple rips iny husbands coats.

You will probably have to buy additional needles. It only comes with 1 and it's not the size I personally needed. Otherwise it has a good variety of colors for the yard.

Nice little kit, but the needle is quite small—you’ll need a threader to use it. (Or better eyes and a steadier hand than me…)

I decided to get rid off all my cheap cotton socks and replace them with Merino wool socks which are $20 - $50 per pair. At that price, I need to learn how to fix them! I bought this and learned how to darn, extending the life of my very expensive socks.Darning is difficult when there is already a hole, as you are having to re-create the missing area by weaving the thread back and forth across the void. I don't want to do that again! In the future I will darn when there starts to be a thin spot in the sock, the way it looks before the hole appears. If you darn the thinning part of the sock it is easier, as you are just reinforcing rather than using your thread to create sock in the void of a hole.

This came with embroidery thread in lots of colors, a needle tucked into a rectangle of foam, and a mushroom that is just a wee bit smaller than our fat American heels. It works fine, don't get me wrong. The handle on the mushroom is just a little too short, too. But again, it works okay. And I've never used a darning egg before, so I don't know exactly how they are supposed to be. But I'm going to look for a slightly bigger mushroom with a longer handle.

As a first-time darning kit, this is pretty good and the low price makes it appealing. I'm the type of person who only sews to fix small tears in clothing. Almost everything in the kit works well. After some practice and how-to videos I got the hang of darning. My only complaint is the quality of darning yarn. The listing's picture shows it doesn't come on spools or cards, which I realized was an issue once it started easily tangling. The ends also fray very easily, so I kept having to twist them back together, or you'll need to use wax or something else to stop this from happening. Still, I managed to darn multiple socks.

I remember my Mum darning the heels in socks and the elbows in jumpers, but have never done it. However, with all my extra leisure, seemed trifling to not give it a go.This kit is great, the mushroom makes it really easy to keep a rounded shape and not prick your fingers. Bit of advice: Split the yarn into two as it is really thick and use a big eye needle which is much easier to thread and sew.Great to restore socks to the drawer with their bright darns. I felt like Martha Stewart. :)

I don’t like that you have to glue the mushroom head onto the handle. As others have said, the mushroom head is too small. The threads seems fine.

I use the mushroom whenever I have anything to be darned. It could be a bit bigger though.

Love it its the old way of repairing rather than Binning !!! we need two saving the environment people need to do more about this!! Fix it rather than bin it !!!
