I strongly recommend it.
Oooh wow, this was certainly a spectacular book! It's set in the olden times, and you excitedly turn the pages, wondering what is going to happen next... lots of twists and turns in Opal's life! This is typical Jacqueline Wilson. If you're a fan of hers, take it. I strongly recommend it.

This is my FAVOURITE book EVER! Nice Work Jacqueline!!!
This is the most amazing book I have ever read , although it does have quite a few sad parts. Opal is like some of Jacqueline Wilson's characters (she loves art , she is very good with words-much like Hetty Feather , and she is very intellegent. . .), but she is also completely different. Opal is a sweet young girl who goes to St Margrets but when her father is sent to prison for things he didnt do she must leave school and work at Fairy Glen. Then Cassie and her mother have a fight which sends poor young Cassie packing. When Opal starts attending suffrage meetings she becomes very close to Mrs Roberts until she says something none of the suffragettes like. At the beginning of the story she doesn't believe in love especially when she thinks of Romeo and Juliet-at first he was in love with Rosalind but left her for Juliet then is willing to die without her , and when she sees Freddy-a young boy who works on the factory floor at Fairy Glen. But when she meets Morgan Roberts , Mrs Roberts son , she admits she is indeed in love and has days out with him and writes letters until one night they go home late and Mrs Roberts forbids them to see or contact each other again until a meeting turns bad when Freddy suggests Morgan enlist to fight in the First World War and he aggrees and Mrs Roberts cant convince him not to enlist so she gets Opal to try but she doesnt succeed either and he enlists although he hates the very idea of fighting but thinks when he takes over the factory that this will be his only way for gaining respect. Then a very sad thing happens that leaves Opal crying every night even when her dad comes home a completely different person after being in jail. Mrs Roberts is completely heart broken and decides to help Opal with her education by sending her to art school where she meets another young boy , Sam , but she doesnt want to feel guilty like she is betraying Morgan. She tells him: 'I like you very much, Sam, but you do realize I can only ever be friends,' I said. 'I can't ever love anyone but Morgan.' . The story ends with Opal going home for a day after finishing her final year at art college. She goes all the way to Fairy Glen house-Mrs Roberts and Morgans house. The factory was closed and being pulled down. She goes to the garden at the back of the house which is covered in ivy and weeds. The day before Morgan had left for war they had spoken about him possibly dying:'You won't die, will you Morgan!' I burst out.'I won't die not until I'm an old, old, old man,' he said'You promise me? You promise me you won't get kiled in this awful war? You will come back safe and sound, not even wounded?''I promise you,' said Morgan, but when he pulled me close in an embrace, I could feel him trembling.'Have you ever broken a promise?' I asked.'Never,' he said, bit I knew he was lying.'I don't believe in ghosts, I never have, but if you did die, you would come back and haunt me, wouldn't you?''Of course. I'll never lie still like my father under his hideous obelisk. I'll roam free, flying above you like these angels, and I'll be with you day and night,' Morgan whispered.'That's so beautiful. But promise again you will cone back safe, even so.''I promise promise promise,' said Morgan, and then he kissed me.But then at his garden;'I'll try to believe in ghosts, Morgan,' I whispered. 'Come to me now. Haunt me for ever. Please. I'm waiting. I still love you so.' I waited for hours, but all I heard was the whisper of the leaves, all I saw was the ivy-strewn wreck of the garden. If you like sad, historical, family adventures then this is the book for you. You absolutely MUST buy it. It's worth every cent.

Very enjoyable read
It's a very good book, that is full of passion. It gets very sad during the end pages, but it's definitely a special book and is enjoyable to read.

why why why?
i personaly hated this book with a passion. opal is such a cockey big headed person and every thing in her life is "unfair" apparently. she thinks that its unfair her father is in jail. she thinks that because he was 'only trying to make them happy it means that it makes what he did less crime-like. she spends her life feeling sorry for herself and moping. she doesnt understand why people dont like her but i dont understand why they do!!! she hates working in the factory and doesnt understand why olivia(her "best friend")wont come and see her. this is yet another thing opal complains about.. obviously olivia is not a troublemaker so she obeys her mother when she says she is not alowed to associate with opal plumsted. Also most of the characters are really unlikable . her mother for instance only complains just like opal. she is angry at the father, wich is understandble, but opal finds it impossible to think why her mother might be angry at this man supposed to help the family but is really a thief that has been arrested and left the family ruined. Mrs roberts is another anoying character who seems to like opal and then quick as a flash suddenly is cold to her. the book is really bad and i suggest that you save your money and get something.better. the jacobite trilogy for instance. But if youre in the mood for.getting angry then borrow it from a friend, who im sure wont mind giving it away At ALL. please dont read...i hate to see people suffer

This book is rubbish!
This book is absolute rubbish! Please, if you are considering buying this book read the rest of this review.First of all, Jacqueline Wilson's (JW) writing is extremely simple. Even 9 year olds could comprehend the book with ease. JW's language range is exceedingly low, making you fall asleep within the first pages.Secondly, the plot of this book is just boring. *SPOILER ALERT* Why would you want to read a book where a bullied girl gets a boyfriend, and than the boyfriend dies? This ends the book way too abruptly and completely ruins the point of the sense, morality and literal point of the book. Also, none of the characters are likeable. Opal just turns out to be a snobbish teen, her sister Cassie is the exact definition of a Karen, and the bullies are just way too fake in terms of detrimental heartbreak and sorrow. There is only one character I like : Morgan. But he dies at the end of the book for no significant reason! Yes, you guessed it. He was Opals little lovebird (more like a tragic lovebird).I hope these reasons pursuade you that you shoudlnt buy this book as it is absolute trash!!!!

Opal Plumstead Book Review
I think that this book was a very good read, I was easily engrossed.Although I think that Opal is quite full of herself and very arrogant, She also seems to be sulking all of the time, and that annoys me. Though the story is fantastic and I really enjoyed it.I would recommend it, unless you are easily annoyed by arrogant, big-headed characters.I think the plot is very confusing at times but very easy to get the hang of.I am slightly annoyed by the fact that she barely knows Morgan yet she still like to think that she's his "soul mate".SPOILER ALERT:If you haven't read yet skip this.I think it's a shame that Morgan dies, but I knew it was coming.I also had a feeling that Mrs Roberts would do something for her, As in letting go to art college, although she is only fifteen.Recommend it 10+

Opal plumstead
First off, opal is tue most annoying character J.W has writtem about. she seems to think that the world revolves around her like it says' not as much as i woupd have liked him too' that really infruated me and i found my self highlighting parts were opal is at her most annoying. and no she cant offer a valid point of view about being in prison or being force-fed so dont even try! Also, she is overconfident and whiney so when her dad goes to prison, she just moans about her life and doesnt think about him. Moreover, why is a 14 yr old girl in love with a 18yr old man???? IT MAKES NO SENSE!Opal has missed 2yrs of high school but will still make it to an art school? dont get me started on her uniform there! are all those bright, contrasting colours really going to make up a 1915 school uniform? NO! there're not!If you want to read this go ahead but please take what ive said into consideration.NOTE: I am 10 years old
