Couleurs de l'incendie

Suspenseful historical page turner that gives a vivid picture of the period.
I don't like all of Pierre Lemaitre's books but this historical fiction had an enormous amount of intrigue and suspense and I was unhappy when it ended.Amazing narration by the author himself who was better than many professional narrators.

Intrigue prenante

Extraordinary!
Let's face it. Books by Maestro Pierre Lemaitre should come with a health warning. First they are absolutely addictive. Then they will deprive you of sleep and probably cause nausea and a rise in blood pressure. They will haunt you and grip you like a demon. The action is so fast, the pace so racy, the protagonists so despicable, it may internally turn you murderous! I would describe the twists and turns of the plot and the people as machiavelic. And it has the face of "the respectable" French "Haute Bourgeoisie". The title of the first in the series was translated as "the Great Swindle". This one deserves to be translated as "the Greater Swindle". And I am so glad that the winners in all this are the down-trodden, the vulnerable, the oppressed, the small fry no one notices or respects AND, more importantly... A WOMAN! There is a kind of cosmic justice, even if it feels like the action of "vigilantes". But revenge feels so good!!!!Finally, not only Pierre Lemaitre is a master story teller but also a master of the French language. His prose is elegant, subtle, his vocabulary extremely rich and adapted to the characters. This gives authenticity to the story and makes reading French a real pleasure.YOU MUST READ THIS BOOK!
