Omnis Health Embrace Blood Glucose Meter with On Off Audible Feature

Like many people that like to take intensive care of their diabetes, I check my blood sugar very often. I transitioned from the Freestyle Lite test strips that my insurance was paying for to out of pocket, so I wanted to find the most affordable solution. These strips are cheaper than Walmart's Reli-On brand and the meter has a better tactile feel too. It would be nice if the screen had a backlight option, but I recognize this is budget level. My only real complaint is that I cannot mute/silence the meter completely. I can turn off the talking voice commands, and decrease the volume of the beep, but there is no way to mute the beep entirely. For those of us that are rogue diabetics, checking behind our purse's on the bus or in the bathroom, the beep is unwelcome and honestly, unnecessary. That being said, this meter is reliable and tests fairly consistently with my Freestyle, with only occasional swings (of about +/- 50mg/dl) of tests taken in the same two minutes.

I've used this meter for about 2 months now. I initially got it because it was cheap and the test strips were on a great sale. It's main feature is that it talks. For those not wanting to read the screen or interpret the symbols (like flashing blood drop to give it blood) that is great. The meter automatically comes on and prepares to sample when you insert a test strip.When I first started using it, I found the whole lancing/test strips/meter handling a bit cumbersome, but it was my first run at such things. Now I've adjusted and find it very easy to use. For my basic needs this meter has been working great. It doesn't really have any data management capabilities....either on board or via PC connection. Near as I can tell , you need a special cable from the manufacturer and it is not readily available.I appreciate the manufacturer gave the meter the ability to speak it's status and input instructions...it even has a 3 setting volume control. However, I do not appreciate that you cannot turn the talking OFF.I found the talking too loud (even on minimum volume) and too annoying, so I opened it up and removed the speaker (two wire to a small speaker, cut them and wrap with a dab of electrical tape and all is good). Now the meter still does its job, but is blessedly silent!

The monitor will not accept my blood. All I get are repeated error messages letting me know there is not enough sample. I'd write a longer review but I'm too tired from giving so much blood with so few results. I wish I were a better writer with a larger vocabulary so I could better express how I feel.

I decided on this meter to save money; (recently unemployed and lost insurance.) I have compared it to the 2 Ultra One Touch meters that I have, and it consistently reads at least 20 points higher. (The 2 One Touch meters agree to within one point.) I guess I will continue using the Omnis with the assumption that my blood sugar is 20 points lower than it says....

Best meter I have ever purchased. Love the voice on it.. Need another to have a spare. Great item. Price fantastic!!!

Accurate readings. Love that it talks telling you your level.Don't like how difficult it is to insert the test strip

Bought Embrace Blood Glucose Meter and every reading is very, very high compared to the actual blood glucose done with blood drawn by the lab at the same time. I threw the Embrace meter away and would recommend everyone compare their meter readings with actual blood drawn by the lab. I think more effort went into bells and whistles than in accuracy of the meter.
