Drink now through to 2027. Decant 1 hour before serving. Famous throughout the world of wine for his pioneering work in the Napa Valley, Robert Mondavi established his namesake winery in 1966 centred around the legendary To Kalon vineyard which was planted in 1868. Today his legacy lives on thanks to the estate’s three talented winemakers Geneviève Janssens, Joe Harden, and Megan Schofield, who pursue his philosophy of creating sensational Californian wines from traditional French varietals. This powerhouse Napa Valley Merlot is a fine testament to Mondavi’s vision and talent. As soon as you pour the first glass you’ll notice the enchanting deep ruby red colour and enchanting aromas of ripe blackcurrants, wild berries and plum jam. On the palate the texture is incredibly soft and velvety, complemented by gentle tannins and a long finish. In addition to the Merlot the winemakers add small quantities of Cabernet Franc, Syrah, Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot to contribute additional complexity and nuances to the finished wine. To allow the character of the Merlot to shine through, the wine is aged in oak barrels for a period of 17 months with just 4% of the oak consisting of new barrels. The result is a textbook Napa Valley Merlot that is the perfect match for red meat, charcuterie or hearty stews.
