Dewalt DT9515QZ 6 x 160 mm Extreme 2 SDS Plus Drill Bit

Being fairly proficient at DIY, I previously bought two "Silverline 245011 SDS Plus Masonry Drill Bit 4 x 160 mm". They were really too long and flexible and were prone to buckling if pushed too hard or run too fast, particularly with a heavy drill. They also had about 4mm of initial bend, which made the situation even worse.Used sensibly, with not too much force for this small diameter, I find this Dewalt 4mm SDS bit works very well. The useable drilling length is about 50mm, which is long enough most of the time. I mostly use it as a pilot drill when fixing things to a wall, as this bit will pass through most fixing holes of the items to be fixed, then drill out to 6mm for the fixing plugs. I still sometimes use the 4 x 160 Silverline, with appreciable care, where the extra length is needed to get past an obstruction, but much prefer to use this bit where I can.I recently got a "WORX WX390 20V Lithium-Ion battery SDS Rotary Hammer drill", when on offer, marvellous machine. This is a lot lighter and easier to use than my much heavier McAllister mains corded SDS drill and a lot more effective, and much quieter, than my 20V Dewalt combi hammer drill when drilling into brick and masonry. So I now tend to use SDS bits much more than previously, but have found it difficult to get them smaller than 5mm, so was very pleased to find this one.

It is good quality in general, but the plastic holder is so tough, and it is a challenge to separate the bit from it.

I made a mistake on buying cheaper bits and realised this after the cheaper ones failed , then i purchasing these. These bits are honestly very good. I would recommend and I will be buying more

Hmmm. Well, I'm not that DIY savvy - that's the disclaimer, but this drill bit broke within about a minute. Is a 4mm bit not tough enough to handle the SDS pressure? You tell me.
