Chinese Chess: An Introduction to China's Ancient Game of Strategy

Well written

I bought this book to learn the game and play on the internet. The author gives a thorough explanation of the pieces, movement, rules, tacics and strategy for playing the game. It's a wonderful help for a beginner/intermediate player and thanks for all the example games included to give the reader added confidence in play and game notation. BUY THIS BOOK AND LEARN THIS GAME!! It's a very different spin to chess.....

Although the steps and information are easy to follow and can be used while playing, the pictures of how to set it up to what it looks like are so small on my Kindle that I can't recognize which character goes to which piece. I am a bit disappointed that this illustration can't be enhanced to a larger size. But, if you are just reading for strategy, it is an excellent book.

The practice problems are most useful, but some of the examples and notation seems a bit technical and at times ambiguous. A great resource for those familiar with Chinese Chess looking to improve their game.

A good book for beginners to Chinese Chess. The diagrams and exercises are helpful.

Very good for begginers

Nicely written but I was wanting a book more on how the game came about and theorised strategy. Not necessarily on games that have been played before. Thank you for your time to publish though but not what I wanted.

The book is a comprehensive guide to the complicated game of Chinese Chess. It appears to set out clearly the first steps in teaching yourself a very different form of chess.

Not for me it was a gift but I am told it is ok!

Great book, will learn much

Leicht verständliches Englisch. Die Schachvariante "Chinese Chess" macht Laune...und mit diesem Einführungsbuch werden einem Grundkenntnisse hinsichtlich der Eröffnung, des Mittelspiels und des Endspiels nahegebracht. Empfehlenswert ist hierbei ein entsprechendes Schachbrett, welches mit einem herkömmlichen Brett nicht zu vergleichen ist, um die Ausführungen nachspielen u. besser verstehen zu können. Fazit: Habe den Kauf des Buches nicht bereut.
