Much better than The Tokyopop release
I bought this solely for comparing the quality of Kondasa's comics to Tokyopop's, and read both the omnibus and single volumes along side each other.Alright, let's start rambling...I can say off the bat that Kodasha knew what they were doing when reprinting the series. The images were crisp, and easy on the eyes; they resized the comic in a way that the screen tones weren't choppy (as compared to Tokyopop's), and used the right amount of contrast to the darker images so they didn't show up as black blobs (which Tokyopop did a terrible job at.) As a matter of fact, Tokyopop's use of contrast really detracted from the art itself. Though Ikumi isn't the best artist out there, the way her images were printed in the first release didn't really credit her at all. The extreme darks and lights made it seem like she didn't know what she was doing. Some panels are cut short of where they were supposed to be, making some pages look incomplete and/ or unbalanced. On some pages, (in the bottom corners of the first volume), you can see the page boarders (which the artist uses as a boundary to where the printing press will cut off. It's extremely unprofessional looking. (Imagine watching an old VCR movie, do you know how it sometimes "jumps," where you'll get fuzzy lines on the screen, and the scene may flicker up and down vertically?) This is sort of what I felt when looking through Tokyopop's copy. Some images were already too small to be scaled, making the lines in those particular panels sketchy, even at times non existent, where as the omnibus edition had very strong lines, and didn't look like they were being stretched nor squished. In all, you're interested in this series, I'd defiantly reccomendation the omnibus addition. Though with that said, it's not perfect. Some of the translations could have been worded better, and there are some editing goofs, but it's still much better off than its predecessor series.Tokyopop addition(s)Art quality: 3/10Editing : 3/10Typography: 4/10Translation: 5/10 (the translations are a bit wonky, and don't follow their Japanese archetypes as they should, but makes up for it with its (totally) girly tone. It makes a cute series seem cuter...I suppose.Total: 15/40Kodasha's OmnibusArt quality: 7/10Editing: 10/10Typography: 6/10Translation: 6/10 ( though closer to its Japanese meanings, the translations seem forced and out of character for the settings of the comic.) They could have worded things differently, (even by changing a single word in some situations.)...I supposed it reminds me of bad acting,.....robots...or something.AfterthoughtsTokyo Mew Mew is a simple, easy to read comic for anyone looking for something cute, but don't expect much from it! It's THAT simple.

Great series. Super nostalgic!
Got this because I love Tokyo Mew Mew and use to watch the old anime back then! Definitely recommend if you like magical girl genre. I would give it 5 stars but the cover came a bit damaged, bent on the corner but it's not so big deal.

Girl power manga without being sexually suggestive
My teenage daughter squealed like an ecstatic fangirl when she got this book. It was a gift for her. She's read through it several times already so I guess it was a good investment? From my point of view (old fart mom who isn't really into manga) the pictures and story line were cute. The character-girls were feisty and fashionable without being too overly sexually expressive which is something you have to watch out for in modern manga novels for teenagers. This omnibus is a really good investment for the money. It's almost 2" thick.BTW: there is an excellent LIBRARIAN resource list if you are looking for appropriate manga/anime novels for the age of your kids (i.e., middle school, high school, boy, girl) with plot-outlines and content warnings to help you decide which books are suitable for your kids. That is how I found this book. Hope d'Zon doesn't mind me posting the link for us parents who are scratching their heads, trying to figure out what books to buy for our manga-loving, cosplaying teenagers: http://noflyingnotights.com/2011/12/12/must-have-manga-for-teens/

it’s cute and fun fluff
I’ve been meaning to read this magical girl classic since I was a child, and finally I got to do it. It’s a cute story, with plenty of adorable characters. Of course it checks all of the boxes when it comes to tropes in the magical girl genre, but sometimes it’s good to try not to think too much and indulge in a fun story.

The manga has beautiful art, but I would watch the show instead to get started on the series
Tokyo Mew Mew was one of my first series, and this re print is flawless, however the manga version of the story isn't.The art in Tokyo Mew Mew is eye candy, it has some of the most beautiful shoujo art I've seen in a manga. Sadly that doesn't help how the plot flows. Before I review the manga I want to mention the show so you understand my criticism. I prefer the show over the manga, while it has that monster of the day formula we still had many episodes about the girls and the show didn't always focus on Ichigo, the writers knew how to balance that out. The show wrote a diverse cast of female characters with their own struggles, goals, and personalities. While it's not a flawless show I think it's excellent for young girls (not the 4kids dub, hopefully it will get a new release) and anyone that enjoys the magical girl genreAs for the manga, the problem is that it focuses way too much on Ichigo and not the other girls past special occasions where they get power ups. Now I wouldn't have a problem with the series focusing on Ichigo a lot, it would be fine if they carried out the plot like in Sailor Moon (but even that manga focused on other characters), but the problem is they don't. Most of the manga is just focusing Ichigo wanting to get with Masaya, Kisshu interfering/stalking her, Ichigo's thoughts on her love life, all the boys interested in Ichigo, Ichigo wanting to get with Masaya, Ichigo wanting to get with Masaya, Ichigo going on a date with Masaya, Ichigo turning into a *spoilers* because of Masaya, Ichigo wanting to date instead of fighting, and oh aliens want to take over the world and 5 girls have to protect it while getting the Mew Aqua. The elements I listed appear on the show, but it's not the show's main focus and it's balanced out because we focus on the plot and other girls, even the robot and Ryou got episodes. Speaking of the girls they really aren't anything but to fight alongside Ichigo in the manga, and the final battle really showed that when she did something to them over her feelings for Masaya (which never happens on the show), since really the whole manga is about Ichigo wanting him.SPOILERS IN THIS PARAGRAPH: If you've heard about the manga's sequel, Tokyo Mew Mew A La Mode, nothing gets better. You would think with Ichigo out of the picture the girls would have focus, we are even told Mint is the leader while she was away, but instead of actually developing them they decided to write a new character to take over called Mew Berry. I wouldn't have had a problem with this character if it weren't for the fact she only became the leader because she had two animal dna (a iriomote wild cat like Ichigo AND a rabbit!!! WOW!!!) and.... Yeah that's their reason. Despite being new she comes off as more experienced than all the girls including Ichigo and has a pretty generic annoying character (she literally attends a private school for the cute uniforms, now you get the idea of her character), and everyone worships the ground she walks on just because. I was more interested in her childhood friend.END SPOILERSSo in conclusion the Tokyo Mew Mew manga lacks because it mainly focuses on Ichigo and her love life while everyone else is in the background. The series could've just been a regular shoujo or romantic drama if you removed the random magical girl battles. If you are interested in the series I would start with the show.

I really loved this but it does have some minor glitches....
I am a huge fan of Tokyo Mew Mew/ Mew Mew Power and this is very good absolutely adorable, it's a good thick book because it carries Volumes 1 and 2 together, very cute cover too for a good price. This book is written and translated into English. The art is brilliant and I LEARNED ABOUT ENDANGERED ANIMALS!!The issues I have with it:Some of the translations are bad there are a few short sentences that don't make complete sense, you know what they are but the words haven't been translated well and are almost in the wrong order (as Japanese words usually are)The names bug me slightly, lettuce, mint....? They are much better in Mew Mew Power the show where they're Bridget and Corina the names make me cringe a little but it's a good story. The fact Ichigo is repeatedly called that without ever being referred to as Strawberry but the other's are always called by their English translation names is very odd.Other reviews have stated the alignment is off, personally in my copy it was perfect the whole way through so that isn't a problem it could just be a bad copy or printing errors as many books have.Much better than the TV series, will be buying the next one too, great for teens and adults alike who love their anime, very cute and fun and even educational!!It's not childish like the TV series is a little.

Perfect for those who loved the anime
Bought it as a present for my little sister. She absolutely loved it! It has more detail than the anime and the illustrations are wonderful. I will be buying her the rest of the series next.

Ben tre copie difettose!
