Sorrow and triumph
I always admired Madeliene Albright as SOS, but it was across news reports and/or TV interviews. I'm late to the game just reading this now, however i felt like a friend listening to another friend tell her life's story. I found the personal stories so touching and made her human. I believe it also helped shape her thinking and decision making. I was a young professional during her time in politics and more focused on my career and family than DC or the world around us. This book was history, non-fiction novel and romance story all rolled into one. It was a fabulous read, which I could barely put down. Can't wait to read some of her other works.

First-Hand account of major historical events....
I enjoyed this book as a trip back in time. It informed my not-too-accurate memory of the issues while Albright was in office. She did not address the politics or scandals of the Clinton White House unless they directly impacted her job. There was enough of Madeleine Albright’s own fascinating life to make this a worthwhile read. The book is heavily annotated, so I could flip to the back to clarify just about any event. Eventually, the book seemed to be too detailed, too heavy. I finished it, but began skipping through pages, skimming whole sections. Events/episodes began to look alike. I’m not sure what should have been cut, but.,,,

Book of the Ages
I loved this book. It is a large book, but I couldn't put it down; had to finish it before beginning my book club reading. I have been recommending this book to all my family and friends. It is very educational, full of history, politics and personal life achievements as well as sorrow. Albright writes with passion and clarity. She was born in my cohort so I found this exceptionally stimulating and informative. She could have made a great president had she been allowed to run for the presidency. This book was inspirational and full of energy. Should be required reading for all ages. The machinations of policy and politics behind the scenes was so informative and exciting. Can't say enough about this book. Be sure to read beyond the end to see the photos and other information provided to document the writing of the book. WOW, I bought this on my Kindle App, but I want the hard copy now to have it on my book shelves for posterity.

Inspiring story for women
I needed to read about an influential leader for my Leadership and Management class for college. Although I was interested in learning more about Madeleine Albright, I wasn't exactly excited about the reading. What a surprise I was in for when I began reading this. It is not a boring read at all. I found that I was captivated by her writing style and the story she was telling. Learning about the path Madeleine took to become the first Woman United States Secretary of State was so inspiring. I highly recommend this book.

Start For Woman Equality In Government.
This book was great reading,Madeleine, was a good secretary for the U.S.. I am going to share my book with a teacher that I used to work with. Reading this book gives a reader an in sight to the working of the U. S Secretary of State. Trump could not handle the presidency after reading about how a person has to handle the personalities of European diplomatically.

Great read!
I never really knew how hard the secretary of state worked until I read Madeline's book. It is amazing the work they do, purpose, dedication along with the frustration and a continueum of the hamster wheel effect. Her detail was exquisite and made for a really great reaf!

A Bit Dry at times
Although I enjoyed this memoir and certainly admire Madeline Albright, I found that her writing style was too factual, simply recounting the facts rather than giving much insight into her own emotions about the events and decisions. Perhaps she's just a very private person. I found I enjoyed the first part of the book more, particularly the part about her discovery that 3 of her 4 grandparents were actually Jewish, which was hidden from her as she was growing up. Much of the rest of the book seemed to consist of her bragging about or defending decisions she made as UN Ambassador and Secretary of State.I read this for a women's book group, and most of us agreed that we were looking for a bit more personality in the book.

A Must-Read for Women
To start off with, I am a die-hard Republican. BUT I love biographies, and received this as a Christmas present from my husband.Ms. Albright's story is so compelling, and it rises far above any political alliances. This is a story all women can understand and identify with.

Enjoyable and insightful, but a bit drawn out
I purchased these memoirs because I so much loved her book "Prague Winter". I found this one enjoyable and I really appreciated her openness and the insights she gave into her personal and professional life, even including events that reflected poorly on her personally. I found the narrative to be slightly partisan, but I suppose that's to be expected from such a senior political figure. I think this book would have benefited from stronger editing, reducing the volume of trivial details and bringing out more themes and underlying values (as she did in Prague Winter). As it stood, I made it through about 2/3 of this book before looking ahead to more policy narrative in the remaining third and finally reverting to my unfinished biography of Hamilton. Still, I'm glad I read the first 2/3 of the book.

Fascinating
I don't often read memoirs, but this is a fascinating insight into global events, written in a clear, coherent and flowing style, including a good dollop of self-deprecating humour. The author clearly knows herself and the world in which she served very well.
