Mazda MX-5 Miata: Find It. Fix It. Trick It. (Motorbooks Workshop)

Mazda MX-5 Miata: Find It. Fix It. Trick It.
If you're a Miata-phile you'll buy this book anyway. It's well put together (minus 1 or two editing/layout mistakes) Excellent large format photographs. Mr. Tanner does and excellent job of detailing the significance and differences between the various years and editions of the World's best selling sports car, The Miata. If you're looking to purchase a used Miata 1989-2002 this is a great resource. Mr. Tanner tells you what models are most sought after and what problems/Miatas to stay away from. The one thing I was looking forward to in this book was more projects. While there are some maintenance and repair projects in this book don't expect the same very detailed explanation of projects from Mr. Tanner's last publication "Mazda Miata MX-5 Performance Projects" (to be fair, there was no reason for Mr. Tanner to rehash projects from his last publication). This new publication is much more about the spirit and fun of the Miata, it's full of humorous and interesting anecdotes from Miatphiles around the World.Makes an excellent companion for Mr. Tanner's "Mazda Miata MX-5 Performance Projects" and the perfect addition to your Miata canon.

Mazda MX-5 Miata: Find It. Fix It. Trick It. (Motorbooks Workshop) (Purchased on 08/10/2008) by Kieth Tanner
Excellent Miata tool for many of the projects that a non-wrench would like to attempt. As a long time owner of a miata it has frustrated me that I don't do more of the basic maintainance on my little car. This book as provided the foundation for me to perform repairs I never thought I'd be able to. In the two weeks I've had it I've replaced the Crank Angle Sensor (CAS) gasket and put aftermarket sway bars on my car.I highly recommend this book to any enthusiast regardless of mechanical skill level. If anything, it will better inform you what to expect/look for after you take your car to your own mechanic.Tanner provides clear instructions with great pictures.

Light on content
A large part of this book is given over to love letters from various Miata owners. This is all nice, but I would have preferred to see much more technical content.

Just OK. A little short on data. Best for someone new to Miatas
I already knew 80 percent of what Tanner's book covers from hanging around on sports car discussion forums. It's got good information, but very basic, and a bit heavy on "lifestyle" (OK let's all fawn over what a great car the Miata is.) On the plus side, Tanner knows his stuff. The book reads easily and is has great pictures.Perhaps the book should be renamed Miata: "Find it, fawn over it, fool around with it" because there's precious little real repair or high performance information there.

Perfect introduction to Mk1, Mk2 and Mk2.5 ownership
I bought Keith Tanner's 'Find it, Fix it, Trick it' as an introduction the world of the lil' Mazda MX-5 ('Mazda Miata' in the US and 'Eunos Roadster' in Japan) as I've been looking to a find a reference for 'the world's most popular lil' roadster'.I've only had this book a few days, but I'm already absorbed, having read through it once and certainly going back over it again.Keith Tanner freely admits that his love of Miata's started as a hobby, turned into a near obsession and ultimately completely changed the direction of what he does for a living.A nice clear, analytical, yet crisp and concise; I genuinely think that this book should be the first point of call for anyone considering MX-5 ownership.Chapters are brief, but give you enough information as to be food for thought, certainly giving a bit of background to the marque, things to look for with a potential purchase, what the ownership experience can be like; and more importantly (for a considerable number of enthusiasts) some of the considerations and modifications that can be made, to both enhance the machine and the overall ownership experience. This is by no means a 'workshop' manual or a 'how to' guide, walking you through step-by-step, on how to diagnose, repair and modifiy every aspect of the car. It is very much a sort of 'jack of all trades' and 'master of none', but covering all the topices in a way that brings genuine value and will set people to think about what they are looking for from, either a MX-5 purchase, or extended ownership to explore the potential of the machine.Tanner's engineering background certainly shines through, as descriptions are clear and concise, procedures are descriptive, methodical (e.g. how to read the diagnostic on a Mk1 'NA' model) and dead easy to follow. There's also a reasonable smattering of pictures to keep you on the right track. Along with pointers towards other resources, just in case you're after more information.Okay, it's not an extensive or exhaustive resource, but it more than sets the right ground work, gets you to think about what you want from the car (road, track, power, handling, etc) and gives enough encouragement and direction to make it an invaluable first read.If you have even a passing interest in the technical aspects of MX-5 ownership, then this has gotta be the book for you...

Good book, perfect introduction to Miata/mx5.
I read the book and found it entertaining. In special the history part, since it give you some nice backgroun about the Miata/mx5.When it comes to the fix it part, there are better books that are dedicated on the subject. This book is nice as an introduction to the Miata/mx5.
