Faber Nancy & Randall Accelerated Piano Adventures Sightreading Bk1 Pf: For the Older Beginner Paperback – 1 April 2014

I'm a piano teacher who uses the Piano Adventure series as it's really brilliant and sightreading, along with other skills, develops really well. Recently they brought out this new Sightreading book to accompany each level so I've added it in.. it really is excellent. I already thought the Piano Adventures series developed sightreading well but when you add this book in, the students' sightreading skills really accelerate fast. There are 5 sightreading exercises to do per week, which co-incide with the tune the student is learning in the lesson book, and will have similarites to it (for example be in the same hand position). The student just plays one of these per day. It is repeated twice and the student is encouraged to simply count in, play and keep going, repeat once, and then cross it out with a pencil. I have noticed that students who have been doing this for as little as a month are able to play their new tunes in the lesson book much more easily and quickly. One of the reasons this book is so good is that the sightreading is not too difficult, it is at the students' level therefore they are able to do it and it builds confidence and skill....like when learning to read, you read easy books... it's the same concept here with learning to read the language of music. A great addition to the series.
