Some of the solder pads are close together making it easy for a solder bridge to occur. A quick build, but be careful. Works well after troubleshooting.

The media could not be loaded.  I enjoy building these little hobby kits. Velleman makes quite good ones and I've built close to a dozen of them. They have all worked as advertised.One thing I don't like is things that blink and flash at a fast rate. I find it annoying. This heart is one of those. So I changed it. I've been building electronics for about 55 years and am not afraid to modify things.This kit, as delivered, will blink at a rate of about twice per second. That's about normal heartbeat rate, but too fast for me. The flash rate is determined by R8 and R9. R8 is 33k and controls the time on the inner heart. R9 is 100k and controls the outer heart.I changed both to 270k which made both hearts light up for the same amount of time. They also slowed the rate to about 2.5 seconds for each heart. I find that much more soothing, as did my wife for whom it was a Valentine's Day present. She loves it. It doesn't imitate a real heartbeat as it does with the original resistor values, but we're both fine with that.I also added a switch to the 9V line from the battery so I didn't have to pull the battery to shut it off. I used JB Weld to mount it. Most of the Velleman kits don't have a switch, but for most of them that's not a big deal.The slight challenge was that most of the solder pads are small and very close together. You'll need a very small tip on your soldering pencil to make it easy. My soldering pencil has a 1/8" tip which is just a bit too large for this kit but having done this sort of thing for decades, I had no problems. Just be careful of a solder bridge between two pads, especially for the LEDs.Other than that, enjoy. Have fun.
