Screen printing is one of the most popular methods of printing today. It's used by industry, but has also been embraced by fine artists and craftpersons. Almost all printed t-shirts are produced using the screen printing method. In fact, many everyday objects from stop signs to coffee mugs are printed using the screen printing process. In this video, craft expert Sharyn Pak demonstrates the four basic methods of screen printing including: paper stencil, the blockout method, the film technique and the photo emulsion method. Using these various techniques the viewer can create almost any screen printing effect imaginable. The program is divided into several chapters. The video starts with an introduction to screen printing followed by a review of all materials and tools. There s also a short chapter on preparing and maintaining equipment. The following four chapters feature comprehensive, step-by-step demonstrations of each of the aforementioned screen printing techniques. Sharyn also demonstrates printing on a variety of surfaces to create prints, greeting cards and note cards, decorating a tablecloth and napkins, and finally producing a poster and t-shirts for a music group. This DVD also boasts a Special Features section including a gallery of screen printed rock posters and a gallery of Depression era WPA public service posters. In addition, this section features two video shorts: Numbering An Edition and How To Replace Screen Fabric. Included on this disc is a downloadable PDF file of the materials and tools list.
