Amazinging Authentic Sounding Clock
Only advancing arthritis would make me give up my beloved key wound chiming mantel clock, but it did and I searched and searched for a battery operated clock that would reproduce authentic hand wound chime sounds. Well this is it. It is amazing in it's clarity of tone right down to the fade away echo of the chime itself as the tone slowly disappears. It is a hand rubbed finish and fully sized. The face is elegantly detailed and the wood is roughly etched out like a true handmade clock. It operates on one 'C' cell battery (included with mine) and is amazingly accurate according to my nightstand atomic clock. The chimes can be adjusted in volume all the way to off, or you can set it to cease chiming at Eleven P.M. and resume chiming at Six A.M. Those are the only adjustments available outside of the time itself of course and are adequate for my needs. It looks stunning on the mantel and when the chimes begins has never failed to elicit compliments from my guests who think it is genuinely chiming every time and are always amazed at the fact that it is battery operated and the chimes reproduced on a chip. They are always taken with the solid construction and finish and the elegant dial. I will cherish it for the rest of my life.

Looks good, sounds good, and keeps good time
A nice clock. Not as big as listed however. I was expecting a larger clock based on the dimensions given and had re-arranged a shelf to accommodate it. My measurements of the clock in inches are: 10.1H x 16.25W x 4.75 D. That's a significant 2.5 inches less height than the listing. I bought the clock to replace a mechanical chiming clock that has served me well for 30 years but was badly in need of an expensive cleaning. The chimes on this Seiko clock are a good simulation of mechanical chimes, not perfect, but very good. The clock is attractive but the face is very shiny and hard to read at some angles due to reflections. I would have preferred a more plain face with higher contrast. It appears to keep good time and overall I am pleased with the clock. Looks good, sounds good, and keeps good time.

Beautiful Mantel Clock with Great Sounding Chimes
I got the clock this week, it was very well packaged and protected. It was a little bigger than expected, but it worked out fine. The clock is really very nice looking, the face plate is beautiful and the chimes are deep and rich sounding, but what's even nicer in my opinion is the chime switch, and volume control are easy to access. It's real wood, but it's so polished it nearly looks like plastic Nearly. Once you open the large door in the back you can see the wood grain and so the hand polishing is outstanding. The numbers are large and easy to see from almost anywhere in the room. So it's a little bigger than I expected, but it's a beautiful clock not overly ornate just a beautiful well functioning clock. The adjustments behind the large easy access hinged door in the back are easy to use with a solid feel, and clock seems very well built and I have to say I'm impressed.Over all I believe it's the nicest medium/large mantel clock your going to find in this price range.

It won't wow you but it's a decent clock
A nice clock but hardly competition for an antique with a true Westminster chime. The clock body is attractive but larger than I thought it would be. The clock face is too garish and locks a bit cheap. As you might expect for the price, it's not porcelain. The control to adjust the loudness is cheap plastic and difficult to see. The clock has two chimes but the Westminster chime only chimes on the hour. Despite my complaints, it keeps good time, works with single C battery, and is attractively priced.

Only one issue.
Nice big size mantle clock. Beautiful wood and face. Even the rear side is well-made. The chimes are rich sounding. Negatives: the instructions are poor. the chime was not coordinated to the clock, it chimed one less time for each hour. At noon, it chimed only eleven times. No way to fix. I went on web sites and found out that I had to pry off the bezel and glass and push back the hour hand. It was not that easy to do. Still like it.

One Star
Chime intermittently works just outside of the return time frame.

Not Comparable to a Key-Wound Clock
I'm returning the clock because the chiming mechanism is not tuned properly. Several of the notes in the Westminster chime in particular are flat and out-of-key. (I have a key-wound, traditional grandfather clock in the house for comparison.) I realize that the "chimes" are electronic but it makes it all the more unpleasant. It's the old adage "You get what you pay for".

Gorgeous !
Beautiful workmanship, easy to set up, excellent precision of time, love the resonance of the dual chimes (including on the quarter hours), great volume control depending on size of the room you put it into - have mine turned down to the lowest level but still can enjoy the chime while watching TV. Husband hasn't complained about it interfering, which is a good sign. Brings back those nostalgic years of listening to my grandparent's old mantel clocks. Nice to enjoy the Westminster and Whittington chimes in the house again, since my Howard Miller grandfather clock still works, but hasn't chimed in years now. This is why (with the great reviews of this clock) I chose to try this beautiful Seiko. My previous Seiko watches have worked well, so I thought I would give this one a try. It has a one year warranty; wish it was longer, but not many things are guaranteed for more than that nowdays.BJG-Knoxville,TN

The chimes are the soul of our house!
I bought this clock for my husband's birthday to replace a wind-up clock that was too old and worn to repair. This quartz-run clock is a beautiful replacement. The face is lovely, the wood of solid dark oak is handsome and best of all the chimes are just perfect. We took several days to adjust the intensity of their sound and we also silenced them at night ( 10 pm to 6 am) although they would not disturb our sleep as they are mellow. The sound of these chimes would please a nightingale! We love it.
