Butter Bell Original crock by L. Tremain, Fleur de Provence Collection-Noir Black, 4x4x4

I had wanted to try keeping butter out of the refrigerator for some time, but I'd been a bit wary. So I read about butter bells somewhere (I can't remember where) and bought this one. It looks nice in my red-accented kitchen, keeps the butter fresh (allegedly for two weeks, but the butter never lasts that long, so I can't say for sure) and soft enough to spread easily. The only thing you have to do is pack the butter firmly into the bell and change the water in the bottom every couple of days. This butter bell is easy to wash, too, between fillings of butter.

It wasn't as great as my friend told me it was. She claimed the butter would be perfectly soft and spreadable by using this compared to a traditional butter dish with cover. However, the butter was harder (ie. unspreadable) in the butter bell than in our butter dish. It was able to sit out longer than the butter dish, but if you're using butter pretty regularly this isn't an issue. We ended up tossing this and going back to our covered butter dish and perfectly spreadable butter.

This was delivered promptly, but this is the first time I have had a bad delivery from Amazon. The crock is ceramic and easily broken. Instead of front door or garage delivery it was left on top of mailbox at the front of road. It had fallen on the ground and we did not see it laying in the road. Found it when we backed out of our drive. No one from any company has ever delivered a package in 35 year in this way.

We love it! It’s nice to have soft butter year around, even in the summer. The butter ‘cup’ is immersed in a small amount of water so you won’t need to worry about dust, bugs or anything getting into your butter.It looks really nice and is a conversation starter whenever we have company.

I had never heard of a butter crock until my daughter got one. She kept telling me how much she loved hers, so I went on a search fo the perfect one for my kitchen. Found it! I love this one and it compliments my dishes. My butter is always nicely spreadable. And it lasts longer, too!

I love this. It’s so pretty and I love a place to keep my butter. I have one small issue with it. It says to put in 1/3 cup of water. That’s too much as the butter falls out. I’ve tried every combination of water and the butter still slides down into the water. Maybe just a few drops is good enough?

I was a little apprehensive purchasing this butter bell because I was not accustomed to keeping butter out of the refrigerator 24/7. Well now that I've had it for a few months I can say that I totally LOVE it! It is so nice to have fresh spreadable butter at my fingertips. It does take a little dedication to clean and set the butter into the bell but it's worth it. I never had any issues with the butter falling out and I change the water every day or two. I definitely recommend it.

Love having usable butter. The French are so smart to have invented this. A little water in bottom container and butter pressed into top is preserved at room temp. No more out of the refrigerator butter

we like to have soft spreadable butter for our toast in the morning, now we can keep it safely on our counter in our butter bell... it keeps it good, doesn't go rancid if you remember to change the water as recommended. would recommend to all who like to have spreadable butter on hand always. great buy, good value, well made and designed.

… The french fry. But all joking aside, this thing is wonderful. Why did it take so long for me to figure this out? And who invented this thing if it’s been around for hundreds of years? Whatever, it is absolutely freaking brilliant, and everything they say about it is true. I’m gonna be giving out half a dozen this Christmas to all my friends and relatives. Get one, you won’t be disappointed!

When I was in Europe, I became acquainted with the French butter dish. This is a piece that adorns the table well, and if one follows the instructions, the family will always have spreadable butter on hand. One note, if the bell top gets broken... well, I cannot locate just the top to replace it.

This product is nice looking on your counter. The directions on how to fill the dish were clear. My husband said the butter wasn't as spreadable as he thought it would be on the first day being used. It got better the second time he used it. I quite like that it is mess free.

Definitely makes a difference in "spreadablity". Buttery is softer coming out of this than out of my regular butter dish on the counter which in turn is saving my bread from tearing. Very thick crock pottery, you won't worry about fragility.
