Very clear instructions and helpful gide
What I like about this book are the clear, written instructions and diagrams. The techniques are explained in enough detail so that you can appreciate the substance of the each techniques set-up and execution. The photos are supported by arrows showing the direction of movement of arms, legs at stages of each technique so that they diagram proper execution. This combination of content greatly improves the transfer of knoweldge. Also, there's a section on training which offers some interesting ideas to condition oneself for the preformance of Jiao. I've read quite a few books on martial techniques and place the book high on the list of useful reference works.

Great examples of the techniques of San Shou...
Curious about the vaunted talents of martial artist Cung Le, I picked up this book to study the style he brought into the mixed martial arts scene. The book provided much insight into his style, why it was so effective in (San Shou) competition, and how it could be used in mixed martial arts competition. There's something to be said about dedicated practice of San Shou, especially with the record Cung Le has in San Shou.It will be interesting to see how Cung Le continues to do with the foundation of San Shou in Mixed Martial Arts competition.

For Wrestlers and Grappling Artists
Anyone with a background in Judo, jujitsu or wrestling will recognize many of these techniques and appreciate studying the variations presented. I agree with other reviewers that some techniques are not practical against a larger, stronger or skilled opponent. One disadvantage with grappling arts is that a technique can literally tie you up with one person. Nevertheless, there are several moves demonstrated in this book that can be applied and/or modified to off-balance and "direct" one opponent quickly into others.

A comprehensive look at Chinese throws and take-downs.
This isn't about wrestling in the western sense. There is little or nothing about ground work, which is central to western styles of wrestling. Instead it covers techniques to get your opponent on the ground. In addition to the techniques there is a discussion of the background, philosophy, etc. Another good book from the YMAA.

Quick and dirty throws for combat
These throws aren't the prettiest throws that you've seen, but they will most certainly get the job done. Unlike Judo, these throws aren't dependent on grabbing your opponents gi. Also, the throws very nasty in that they tie up your opponent so that he will have difficulty breaking his fall - perfect for combat.Take it easy when practicing some of these throws and make sure that your partner knows how to slap out.

good
well choreographed pictures and text from someone who knows their stuff... Some moves maybe a bit hard to use in anything but push hands tournaments, but hey, I've been wrong before!

A great instruction manual
Amazing! Easy to follow. My advice; This is not for a novice martial artist. Experience of at least 3rd Degree Brown Belt in Goshinjitsu/Judo and up will really benefit from this since from that level up a lot of this material will be familiar territory and one will be able to grasp the nuances as well as be solid on technique and not hurt your training partner

Excellent addition to previous skills and knowledge!
Only positive feelings I have got. I do exercising with Wusu Sanda. And this book fits perfect for wrestling/grappling Wushu Sanda needs. Book contains many techniques that works not only on the mats (sport) but also for self-defense purposes. I have been attended couple of Wushu Sanda seminars and all the takedown, wrestling techniques in those seminars just one by one corresponds to techniques given in this book. I suggest to have it and especially to those guys who does training in such a sport like Wushu Sanda.!Concerning drills for individual exercising given in this book. There are not so many of them just basic ones moreover all of them are suitable for training and gives very good outcomes in application of these techniques. So, this book is very good, actually, I would say even excellent addition to skills and knowledge gained in Wushu Sanda trainings.Pictures are very well and explanations, comments are clear. If something is not unclear just take Your time and read over again. I suggest this book very much!

A good book but Judo and Jiu Jitsu people worn't learn anything new.
I bought this out of interest as I train in Brazilian jiu Jitsu and have some background in Judo and Aikido too. This book starts, as most Chinese martial arts etxt books do, with long winded expositions of how great the authors are. It also provides some historical background and, as always in Chinese martial arts textbooks, it claims to be the source of all superficially similar arts in other Asian nations. The techniques are interesting but there is nothing that will be new to a Judo or Jiu Jitsu practitioner. The ground fighting section was of particular interest to me but is quite basic to a BJJ person and some of the positions shown will leave one wide open to easy counters if they are tried on an experieinced grappler. Several of the throws and takedowns will not work on a wrestler or BJJ person as they are shown with a step forward from the rear leg instead of a shoot in off the front leg. Easy to see them coming, the attacker is too far out. A simple sprawl will thwart most attacks done this way. Overall, it's an enjoyable book and for those training in a grappling art, will provide some ideas about slightly different applications of techniques they will already know. It certainly made me check out some fast wrestling videos on YouTube - well worth investigating!
