Good overall debut album, reminds me of Gorillaz or Basement Jaxx's "Rooty"
The minute I saw their YouTube footage from Coachella, I thought, "OK...I need to get into their music more." I love their energy, sounds, and vibrance, especially during a time in EDM music where all of the groups/producers are churning out the same tones and quasi-brostep music from their MPC samplers. This music is fun and diverse, and it reminds me of music released by the Gorillaz or what Basement Jaxx did to house music on "Rooty."The album kicks off with an Ennio Morricone-meets-Dick Dale's-Miserlou, inspired sample and song, "Hold the Line." Quirky and...different, yet accessible and fun. It continues with the deep sub-grooves and psych-spacey samples in "When You Hear the Bassline." Then...a curveball. The Jamaican space lord demands some roots reggae for his journeys, starting with "Can't Stop Now" and later with "Cash Flow." There's a raucous alt-rock jam with "Lazer Theme" and a fun ode to herb-smoking with catchy worddplay in "Mary Jane."My favorite song on the albuum is "Bruk Out." Like a play on a classic Indian snakecharmer flute melody or "Dance of the Seven Veils" mixed with an explicit tale of a guy persuing a particularly charming stripper named Jill. I find it completely hypnotizing and chills me out everytime I start stressing in traffic. And I love the percussion throughout this simple song. But like all genre-pushing artists/groups, there seems to be curveballs that didn't seem to fit the flow of the record. I didn't even know "Keep It Goin' Louder" was a Major Lazer song, and I heard it over the radio on an urban hits station, which is quicker to play something much less cool day after day. Also "Pon De Floor" had a memorable video and decent familiarity to my ears, but I never really liked the song as a casual song to turn to. And I really could have done without "What U Like." The beat seems 50% done and the lyrics/vocals don't seem like they fit at all. Just an opinion....With that said, I totally recommend getting this album. It's entertaining, creative, and personally sparked my interest back into the current EDM scene after scores of producer-turned-DJ types pumped the same sounds at multiple audiences to receive similar results. This changes those results. Great album, even with those personal misses.

Solid first album for the duo
I first heard about these guys when gizmodo posted their video for "Pon de Floor". The premise for the video's pretty funny and I couldn't stop watching it. At any rate, I decided to check out the rest of their album and it's really good. If you're feeling tired, it will definitely wake you up. A few of the songs I liked were:Hold the LineLazer ThemeCash FlowKeep it Goin' LouderPon De FloorApparently they recorded this album in Jamaica, so it has a reggae-infused electronica sound. If you've listened to MIA at all, I think you'll recognize it a little bit because one of the members did some production for her. Oh yeah and one more thing, don't forget to check out the video for Pon De Floor on youtube.

Major Awesome
Still love this album. Major Lazer / Diplo has a great ear for picking vocalists/collaborators and working them into the overall sound. Fromsome very funky modern reggae, to grind and some crazy little skitz, Lazer mashes up the sounds into a cohesive record that has good varietybut still flows from start to finish with some banging madness in-between. I love how upbeat the album is and how much energy it has, it's pretty hard to listen to this and not want to move about to the awesome bass lines that swing from dub to dancehall with very strong and slick production. An awesome album for a hot summer, move about to, work-out to or just have playing to start a night of with friends...

One of Diplo's finest...lyrically dumb though lol
Occasionally crass, occasionally questionable, occasionally obnoxious. Lyrically, no different than most rap music and very much tongue in cheek in tone (listen to What U Like and you'll know what I mean...). The music provided and produced by Diplo (and the many dub and reggae artists) is just, in short, banging. Its perfect for starting a night out, partying, gymming it.For those who want to try some dub and dancehall (as opposed to dubstep) and to those wanting to listen to what's coming out of the caribbean, this is a great place to start...
