A useful corrective to a great deal of speculation.
An interesting book with a strong focus on historiography, acknowledging the differing opinions and conclusions of other authors before going on to point how much of what we know of the battle is subjective, both in terms of the sources and in the tradition in which those sources have been used. Ultimately it emphasises just how much we do not know about the battle and how much of what we think we know is really little more than speculation. A good read and a worthy corrective to the many narratives out there which either falsely or naively claim to give the definitive facts.
