The Complete South African Cookbook

I own several other South African cookbooks and they are full of beautiful, colorful photos. This cookbook is full of delicious South African recipes but there is not a single illustration. If you are unfamilair with a dish, it's always useful to be able to see the finished product. I do like a number of the recipes in this cookbook, but it's definitely not one of my favorites.

I am really enjoying this book.

This was purchased as a gift for someone who had recently returned from a trip to South Africa.It doesn't have too many illustrations but has some very interesting and tasty-sounding recipes; and the recipient was delighted.

Not what I thought it was

Exactly what I wanted. In excellent condition.

There is a lot of information in this cookbook (nothing that you couldn't get from Joy of Cooking or any other classic.) But there wasn't much that seemed authentically South African. Granted, South Africa is composed of a number of cultural traditions, but this book didn't highlight them well. It also lacks photos. I was disappointed and am donating the book to a used book sale.
