I love this mat as a beginning yoga practicer. I just started taking some classes as a brand new beginner at the end of last year. I was using a thick mat bought at a discount store that was great for crunches and ab workout class. But as a yoga mat it was no good. It didn't grip the floor and slid if I took a big step or slid my body. My hands sunk into the padding and slipped on plank and down dog poses. This new mat does. not. slip. ever. Doesn't slip on the floor. Doesn't slip on your hands, knees, feet, face, etc. I got it for Christmas and have felt so much more confidant as a result. The pad is much thinner than my workout mat, but I think because it is so dense, it feels sufficiently padded that my knees never hurt from the hard floor. It weighs a lot and does not come with a bag or strap. I highly recommend getting one if you don't have one already. It definitely needs airing out. As natural rubber, it smells rubbery, as would be expected. It gets better with time and use.

This mat is really fantastic and actually does not allow for slipping in hot yoga. But I've been using it for a few months and it's starting to breakdown- tiny bits of rubber are breaking off as it use it (where my feet go). I'm wondering if this is a product defect and if the seller could contact me? I really love this mat for hot yoga!

This is the first time I've actually put some thought into purchasing a yoga mat. I exercise in my house (P90X3) and just installed hard wood floors and quickly realized I need something to protect the floor (and my knees). The last mat I bought at a local drug store lasted about 2 months so I decided it was time to invest in something more durable, environmentally friendly, and less slippy (my very non-technical term). My research was essentially based on the amazon reviews provided by others so I thought I should contribute to the pool.I really like the heft of this mat. It feels pliable but durable. I don't get the weight concerns I read about so often- it's a mat. Its light no matter what! It rolled out nicely and solidly. It slapped the floor nicely. I didn't really notice any smell which is something I read quite a bit from other reviewers. I'm really excited to try it out.But that's as far as I got because the mat looks used. I don't know how else to describe it. I've posted some photos to support my what I'm seeing.There appears to be spray marks on the mat as well as scrub marks. It just doesn't look new. I've asked some "real" yoga practitioners at my office what they think. To be fair, none of them own a natural rubber mat but they all had the same reaction I did. It doesn't look new. I'm debating what to do and will update my review once I decide on a course of action. Perhaps its just how a natural rubber mat looks. I really need to see another one for comparison.

The non-slip surface is on only one side. Wasn't ideal for my hot yoga practice. Still kept moving all over the place. The one side that has it is great. Just needs to be on both sides. Also, because of the natural tree rubber, it is a pretty heavy may to be walking with 15 minutes each way to class.

If I could give 4 1/2 stars I would. This mat is a tremendous upgrade from my old mat. I like the fact that it's not as slippery. I don't stress downward dog as much any more now that I have a mat with better grip/traction and feel I can actually get more out of the pose now that I don't slip as much. The only thing is one end of the mat likes to fold under, so it can get irritating when switching leg stances in between poses and trying to keep the mat from bunching up under my feet (hopefully it will flatten out with more use) also the ruler marking is starting to fade already and I've only used the mat a few times. I like the firmness and thickness of the mat, it's easier to do balance poses on and is still comfortable enough to lay on. Maybe the company can eventually offer it in different colors other than black! Still overall happy with purchase so far.

I love that this is a natural rubber mat and the price is pretty great compared to other natural mats. The longer length is great and is fairly light for being longer and thicker than a regular mat. I love how cool it stays. The rubber smell goes away but remember to wash your hands after use!

I love how it is truly non-slip. But the rubber smell is too strong. Bought in April and almost 4 months later it still has the strong rubber smell. I would return if worth the trouble. It makes me feel sick when using it as I breathe in the odor.

I didn't actually get to use this mat, because it was just too heavy for someone like myself who walks 10 minutes to yoga. I didn't open the package, but I did get to feel the mat through a hole in the plastic wrap that it came in. I would say that it definitely is made of good rubber material, and it seems to have a lot of grip and potential for anti-slip. I went with another thinner and slightly lighter mat because of my traveling purposes, but if you need a mat for your home only, or if you're strong and don't mind carrying it, this one seems to be really great and the price is so much better than the other ones with the same material!
