These are quite old, not new drives. True for ANY listing of HGST drives. Beware.
I recently got one of these drives and it arrived with a piece of paper with a printout of the results of a scan of the disk. Apparently they just put the result in the box and did not read them (or maybe they did). At the top of the report it says the drive FAILED the test and drive failure was expected in 24 hours (see attached photo).Amazon's instructions in that case was to contact the manufacturer, they even provided a link. That took me to wd.com. WD refused to help saying the message just indicated failure might happen and the drive was fine to use. Unbelievable. Fortunately, I was allowed to return the drive to Amazon for a full refund because I had just bought it.I have since done some research and Hitachi was acquired by WD years ago. According to Wikipedia, "By 2018, the HGST brand had been phased out, with its remaining products now marketed under the Western Digital name." HGST drives (ANY of them) on Amazon may be unused, but they are not new. There were made in 2018 or earlier. My experience indicates WD will not support them. Buyer beware.I bought the drive a few days ago and when I bought it it was listed as being sold by Amazon. Now it is listed as being sold by TechnoDeals. Amazon, shame on you for allowing these drives to be sold as new.

Works
Good capacity for the price, checked the drive and it appears to be brand new, no previous spin ups or drive time reported by the drive which is good. A lot of companies will reset the stats and sell old drives as new and I have utilities that will report if that has been done. All in all a good drive for a good price, and with a 5 year warranty you can't beat it...

Bought from DBSKY. Failed after three months.
Both of the hard drives (HGST Ultrastar HUS724040ALE640) failed within three months of purchase. I'll stay away from 3rd party sellers for my next purchase.

Hit or miss
I bought 4 of these (5 including the current order). Out of the 4, 3 works great, and one failed.
