Size:1-1/8" | Unit Count:1 The Drillco 1000EF series reduced-shank drill bit is made from high-speed steel with a black and gold oxide finish and has a 135-degree split point for drilling tough, high-tensile strength metals. The reduced shank drill bit, also called a Silver and Deming drill bit, has a shank that is smaller in diameter than its shaft, permitting drilling with a 1/2" drill chuck. High-speed steel (HSS) provides hardness for wear resistance, and the combined black and gold oxide finish resists corrosion and increases the hardness of the drill bit for additional wear resistance. The self-centering 135-degree split point penetrates hard material without a pilot hole and produces smaller chips that reduce clogging compared to a 118-degree point. The round shank with flats ground onto three sides reduces slippage of the bit when used in drill chucks. The drill bit conforms to American National Standards Institute (ANSI) specifications.Drill bits are cutting tools used to make holes in a range of materials using machines such as handheld portable drills, machining centers, and lathes. Drill bits come in a variety of lengths and types, the most common of which is the twist drill bit. The round, twisted shaft of the twist drill bit typically has two cutting edges and flutes. The helical twist of the flutes brings chips up and away from the cutting edges and allows for coolant to reach the cutting edges. Jobber length twist drill bits, the most common length of twist drill bit, offer a good compromise of length and reach for the widest range of materials and applications. Mechanic's length twist drill bits (also called maintenance length) are a little shorter than jobber length and less prone to deflection when drilling. Short length twist drill bits (also called stub or screw-machine length) are the shortest and stiffest twist drill bits, helping to reduce the chance of deflection or breakage when drilling. Reduced shank twist drill bits (also called Silver and Deming drill bits) have a shank that is smaller in diameter than its shaft, permitting drilling machines with a 1/4", 1/2", or 3/4" drill chuck to create large holes. Long length twist drill bits (also called taper length) are a little longer than jobber length, allowing for deeper holes and longer reach. Extra-long length twist drill bits (also called extension) are longer than long length twist drill bits for greater reach or for drilling deeper holes.Drillco manufactures cutting tools such as drill bits, reamers, taps, dies, annular cutters, end mills, and burs. The company, founded in 1978, is headquartered in Baton Rouge, LA.

Correct size, got it rusty
Seems high quality - I use it for wood, not metal (needed an exact size 15/16 for a hole in wood for the Robust collet system) so I cannot comment on how it cuts metal.I was a bit disappointed to get it with rust on the shank and lower area. It was wrapped in a plastic bag sleeve, around that some brown wax paper, inside a plastic case. Not sure how it got rusty. Sprayed some ruse remover.

Makes Holes
What can i say it drills holes. But with a bit of this size you definitely need a to use a drill press. takes a lot of pressure and be sure to sue cutting oil and a slower speed of he press.

Sharp Bit!
Put it thought its paces and drill 12 hole thru 1/2" steel and it's just sharp as it was when I got it.Very happy with the Purchase of the Drillco 1000EF Series High-Speed Steel Reduced-Shank Drill Bit, Black/Gold Oxide Finish, Round Shank Bit..

Did what I needed it to do
I drilled through 2 inches of steel, it took awhile but it made it.

Sharp
Delivered on time, sharp, and worked beautifully. Stayed sharp after more than a dozen holes in 3/4" steel.

Worked good
Drilled four holes so far in one inch thick steel. Worked good so far. Thirty two holes to go and will be the real test.
