Serious design flaws - I do not recommend !
This is an okay light but an emergency strobe would be better. This isn't anywhere nearly as bright as an emergence strobe and DOES NOT flash , it's continuous on.I didn't buy the automatic light because it only activates automatically in salt water. It takes some effort to twist this light to turn it on , so if you're in cold water and have lost dexterity in your hands then you may have trouble turning it on.Update -I'm dropping my rating of this light to 1 star from 4. The light lacks quality and its designed with some very short sighted flaws.Flaw 1 - An emergency distress light should flash because a flashing light draws more attention. Even better would be an option for continuous on and flash both.Flashing would also increase the battery life in an emergency.Flaw 2 - .To activate the light you rotate the head clockwise and counter-clockwise to turn it off. It is pretty stiff to turn the light on and off.Because it's so stiff ,if you turn it off to conserve batteries until you believe someone is within range to potentially see you , it would be extremely easy to unscrew the head and get water inside the light or lose the headI have accidently unscrewed the head several times when turning the light off.It needs a different type of switch , a push button would be better. It wouldn't add much expense to design a push button that cycles through continuous on , flash and off.Flaw 3 - There is tiny yellow print engraved on the side of the yellow light which is impossible to read . The print tells battery info and operating instructions. They should have made the print black so that it could be read. Even with a magnifying glass it's difficult to read because it's yellow on yellow and lacks contrast.Flaw 4 - The light comes with a velcro strap that is okay but the two mounts that the strap passes through are very small. There is a small lanyard hole but the strap mounts and lanyard hole are so small that you can't get a piece of 550 paracord or a carabiner through them for a more secure mounting option. The lanyard is tiny in diameter and would be easy to cut on wreckage in the water. The ability to use 550 paracord to tie this to a jacket or wear around your neck would be a way better option. These are very serious design flaws that force me to say.... I DO NOT recommend buying this light.

Functional LED
My initial impressions is that this was smaller than I hoped for. The picture makes it seem about the size of a microphone but it's more like the size of a highlighter. I guess I could have figured it out by realizing it only uses AAA batteries. I added this to PVC piping and placed it over an existing flag whip for night time safety on my kayak. Although small, the light does illuminate quite well. I'm not too sure about 3.4 miles of visibility well but it will do the job I expect it to.

Wish it were a flashing strobe...
This is a well made, functional light. While it is not a flashing type strobe, I can see the 360 degrees of light being useful and spotted at night in case of an emergency. If it were half again brighter, this would really be something. One use I have found for this device is a great light for lighting up a pop up hunting blind. All in all, it does work and would let someone find you in the dark if you were lost. For a back up, water proof light source, it works well.

Small, dependable, foolproof
Constant on locating device not a signalling strobe. Ver small fits easily into inflatables to help in locating
