Nice futon..honest review...only one real problem
So i looked for a while and read reviews before i bought this futon. I'll tell you whats what as fast as i can and also there was some confusion once i received it I'll go over as well. Came in the 3boxes, ranging from 45-70lbs. As of right now kodiak furniture is their manufacturer for this futon. Also as soon as i opened the boxes i found the manuel said phoenix full futon butternut. Which was supposed to be Rosemount full honey oak. It didnt look similiar nor the color and i was ready to set it up for a return. The woman which i spoke to through emails was nice and helpful. She had said after a few emails it was a name reload but color and design were same. This is true..for the arms/sides, the color of arms which is in one box was right color you see in pic but what i was first seeing was the long box with all the frame pieces...which are much lighter color. Once i realized this i decided to keep it and hope it was right and would work out. So far its been about 3days and it looks and feels good. Im glad i decided to keep it and if i knew of the reloaded name i wouldn't have been so eager to return it. That and check your sides legs/arms for color not frame to be sure i guess. There are some other points I'd like to add.MattressThe mattress is very nice, just wrinkles a bit at crease but its very comfortable. I ordered the darker black looking one but received the brown one i believe, it looks good too so not going to deal with a return. Not a big problem, i just hate mistakes.FrameThe frame didnt take that long to do, i did it over weekend when i had time. I heard there was a video but the manuel was easy enough to follow. Just make sure to do a double look so you dont get anything turned around. It is number and color coated. The only real problem i have with frame is the wooden dowels holes. The dowels fit in and flush but as you tighten the frame..once its together theres a clear gap at bottom of boards under the dowels that does not stay flush wood to wood, ranging around 1/8"-1/4". I thought if i cut them a lil it might help but then realised no its flush but once you begin to secure it then the gap opens. I didnt over tighten but where it was flush was way too loose so maybe those holes should be lower or i should of made sure the posts were square and not cut goofy by someone. Time will tell if it holds. I was told by someone in my question that their front support broke while using it as a bed. I hope that doesn't happen but again time will tell. I had a futon as a kid and would make sure to lower and raise slow as well as not sitting towards ends while in bed mode so you dont put too much pressure on those two supports. So if you havnt used a futon much make sure you dont do that and lean in a bit while getting in and out so you dont put too much pressure there. Its kinda a hassly thing to do but its not as strong as some bed frames most people are used to so its a good thing to do to preserve it.In allIm happy with the purchase but a lil worried about hold up a while from now. Still its better looking and quality than a lot ive seen. Think i will figure out what to do about the gaps soon so i dont have any problems.Edit 7yrs later...Lasted long, daily use and as bed but spring finally came through lil in one spot that was used a lot, finally warn out.Things wish I known though are; buttons fall off fast, mattress can't be flipped or turned its set for only one way so cuts life down but lasted longer than thought would, and if using as bed make sure to put a mattress cover on or you got crap once leather stuff starts coming off. Replaced 2 leather covers in 7yrs of heavy use. Would be close to on third but move around when sleep so stuff gets warn out on top n inside and mattress will need replacing. Frame has held up for most part just comes loose once in while, make sure to check and retighten few months.

Love this Futon but hate the Assembly process!
I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of this big futon for the price, and on how well built it feels (excellent wood pieces), as compared those costing hundreds of dollars more at the futon stores. The pluses is that has it has side arms that fold up on both sides to form a mini table like surface (for drinks, remote controls, tissues, etc.) and when not in use, you can fold them down. I recommend getting the futon with side arm, it's awesome! Other pluses: the mattress is comfortable (well padded with springs), the leather like futon cover material is good quality and easy to clean. This company makes futon covers in several colors/materials and you can get a different shades of wood frame colors to match your taste. My sister had another brand of futon with a with a cotton/poly blend stuffed inside the mattress and it was hard as a rock to sit on, the frame did not have the side folding tables, and was more expensive! This Rosemount/Kodiac futon has Springs in the mattress which makes all the difference in comfort!Folding the futon into a bed can be a bit challenging at first, however, you get used the way it folds into a bed and in reclining position like a lounge sofa. Some folks may need two people to do this to make it easier to fold down.Like most people who wrote the reviews, the minus was the assembly process, it took me 3 nights after work to assemble it in sections.Go to: www.kodiakfurniture.com/AssemblyVideos.html to see how it's assembled and folded down into a bed (if you're curious). The company has a video online to show you how to build the futon frame, however, the video used a wood frame that was dark in color, making it hard to see which particular screws and which wood pieces are being used in the assembly process. Due to this issue, the video was not helpful to me, only the part where it gets converted to a bed. I did give feedback to the the Kodiac company, & they responded that they would re-shoot the video in the near future and use a light colored wood frame to CLEARLY see which type of screws (there are several sizes), pieces (pins and special bolts), and frame sections are being used in the assembly process. The written instructions start off easy and then gets confusing as more bolts/screws/wood pieces are added. Even after studying the written instructions, I assembled it wrong midway through the process and had to start over. Ouch! That's when I viewed their video online only to be disappointed that it was not helpful to me. In the end, I loved my futon so much that I forgot the headache of assembling it when it was done.I recommended this cool futon for the price comfort/quality/convenience, however, the assembly process is a pain (minus one point on the review).

I LOVE THIS FUTON!
So maybe it is a little too early to be writing a review, as I have only had this futon for a few days now, but WOW! I love it. It is real wood, not some crap with a sticker made to look like wood. It is very sturdy. The instructions are pretty vague so you have to use common sense and really take it slow to make sure you get it right. I did have one other very small complaint, one of the boards did not line up to the already provided hole. I decided to leave it since all the other boards were quite secure and it did have a rod that held it in place (this is how I knew for sure that the hole was in the wrong place.) It was just one small factory defect, I am sure not all of them are like this. Do not let that discourage you! The quality of the frame alone is worth the price, especially with the fold out side tables! The measurements provided include one table folded out, so it can be a few inches shorter, if you fold down the tables, or a few inches longer with both tables pulled out. Now the mattress, I am so pleased with it! The "bonded leather" isn't as pleathery as I thought it might be. It is very soft and doesn't look fake. I got the lighter color. It is so comfortable!! As soon as I got it all put together I threw some pillows and blankets on it and took a fat nap. I was happy that it didn't have any strange odors from being in a factory when I opened it! Overall I am quite pleased with my purchase! I previously had a futon that I bought for about $150 less and if I would have known how great this futon was I would not have wasted my time and money on the previous one! If you are thinking of getting this futon, GET IT! If you are looking at this one and saying "it is a little out of my price range," wait a few more weeks, save your money and get this one anyway! It is a great investment!
