Information
Great read up so far. Bought the book to give me understanding. A friend gave me his late 70s Wheel Horse mower to restore. I want nothing more than to have it run properly, and learn a ton from the project.

Great learning book.
I bought this book for a friend who is always asking for help with small engines. I can say anything on the phone but he has no knowledge of what I’m talking about and limits my help. After looking through this preview I decided he could benefit from the pics and illustrations in this as much as the technical information, since with quarantine restrictions I can’t run to his aid like I used to. He loved the book and said he understands what I explain to him better now. Like he said, it doesn’t beat my 30+ years of experience, but he doesn’t feel like he’s lost now.

Only 4 pages of 2 stroke engines????
I mainly bought this book to learn the insides and outs of all my two stroke power equipment and how to properly maintain them, but this book is dedicated to lawn mowers in specifically. It's a good book for first time lawn mower mechanics but not so good on 2 stroke engines. The book is highly detailed with useful information and properly used diagrams but for MOWERS only! I was a little disappointed to find that it only covered 4 pages of 2 stroke engines with 4 pictures. I guess I'll put this book aside until I need to do some maintenance on the mower. Oh well.

I wanted a good small engine book for my budding mechanics
I wanted a good small engine book for my budding mechanics, ages 8 and 10. We love this book! From the excellent, high quality photos to the really great quality illustrations to the simple to understand, yet thorough text; it is a book that is easy for a beginner to grasp, yet thorough enough to gain a comprehensive understanding of exactly how an engine works. I was on a budget, and so was a little hesitant to spend the $17 for a new book, but it was easily worth that or more. My 10 y/o son now has first hand experience of taking an old nonworking snowblower apart, making some repairs, and experiencing the thrill of blowing snow with a machine that he worked on with his own hands!

Best book on small engine repair on the market.
This is by far the best book for the beginner, diy'r, or a good refresher for someone who's getting back into small engine work. Awesome illustrations and clear explanations. It does not bog you down with mechanical theory and technical terminology. This should be in all high school machine shops. Lots of information on 4 stroke, very brief chapter on 2 stroke but the information will still take you far on them.

Easy to understand, lots of pictures and diagrams.
Got this book as a gift for my 14 year old grandson, he is interested in all things mechanical. He has enjoyed playing with the lawnmower and weed whacker and using the book as a guide. So far everything still runs, so I guess he's doing OK. I explained to him that not all engines are the same, but the principles still apply, so learn the basics and build from there. He is enjoying learning, and I am enjoying watching him build his confidence and library of knowledge. Nothing beats hands-on experience and instant gratification when you pull the cord and the engine fires up! I think it's the only Christmas gift he got that he is still using.

Good general knowledge, but not much specific maker details
Excellent book with very good explanations, and easy to understand pictures too. Gives a good overview of how, generically, engines functions. It is just enough in depth for most people trying to learn a thing or two about engine maintenance, but it doesn't touches more complexes issues. And, because it's not a 2-year long course in a school, it's just the right amount of knowledge for the person who wants to save a couple of bucks on the maintenance of his/her small engines. Needs some previous experience learned before using knowledge in this book. Excellent book overall, and clearly sponsored by Briggs & Stratton.

only the basic for first time DIYer
If you've been turning wrenches in your own vehicles before, you might wanna try something else. Because this book only covers the very basic simple stuff. But if you are a first-timer, its a good read
