This magazine re-writes history
Two issues ago, I would have said this magazine was great. It has interesting and informative stories and seemed like a good way to engage my kids and improve their reading stamina. And then they published a story that referred to people enslaved by George Washington as "workers" and described what I can only assume was intensive labor in light fluffy terms. Ex: "someone had to milk the cow." "Someone else went to get ice..." as if this is all just an easy task that a random person was perfectly happy (and paid) to do. This is a horrible attempt to whitewash history and discount all the labor Black people have been forced to provide this country. The word choice used here intentionally closed off an opportunity to introduce young children to a shameful but important aspect of US History in a simple way; and tried to hide the fact that everyone who served Washington was enslaved by him. I will not be continuing my subscription.

Great Mag for young readers and teachers
I purchased this for my daughter (10 yrs old) birthday. She was so excited when she received the 1st copy. She read cover to cover and while eating dinner had to quiz me on my knowledge...I believe it was truly an attempt to let me know that I "done know everything". Our fist copy had an article about clouds and she just learned this in school... she was about to pass up the article stating "I already know this stuff" when something caught her eye and she ask if she could bring it to her teacher at school. I would recommend this to any child/teacher as a gift. Very rewarding as it is harder and harder to purchase something other than movies/video games for the pre-teen era.

Interesting, thoughtful articles for kids who are interested and willing
My elementary age kids are just beginning to understand the larger scope of the world and human knowledge. While in the process of looking for good magazines about current events I came across Ask, Muse and Dig. I signed up for a subscription to Ask in hopes that it would help my kids get that better understanding of the world of ideas. We've been quite pleased with it.In that process of looking for good kids magazines we tried out a bunch of them, and got subscriptions to most. Here's my quick quick rundownKids Discover: heavy on pictures, light on words. The articles tend to be little snippets and factoids without context or much explanation.National Geographic Kids: heavy on pictures, light on the words. Articles are a bit more in depth than Kids Discover.Time for Kids: Thin and a bit flimsy, but comes frequently (every two weeks?) and covers major current events pretty well. Different versions are available for different ages. Order it from the Time for Kids web site since Amazon doesn't seem to carry it.Dig: In depth interesting articles addressing history and society under the guise of archeology. Probably best for late elementary and middle school, and/or more thoughtful kids.Ask and Muse: In depth interesting articles addressing all sorts of thoughtful topics. Probably best for late elementary and middle school, and/or more thoughtful kids.

Asking Yourself, Is It Worth It ?.. Pay it Forward
Yes, the subscription is worth the price. If you don't have a child of your own, BUY a subscription for your local school or library or youth club. Then pat yourself on the back for inspiring young minds to think, to write, to draw and dream.

Ask Magazine is a real Hit!
My 8 year old grandson just loves this magazine! When I looked up children's magazines on Amazon, this magazine was highly rated and the reviews were very helpful. Lorenzo loves to get mail but also, my son reports that he gets a great deal of information and entertainment from Ask! This was definitely worth getting for him!
