Awesome!
This is an awesome graphic novel. But, be warned--it is EXPLICIT!! Sex scenes are FULLY illustrated, and frequent. The story is very good, for what it is. Kristina was killed by a mob after murdering many local peasants. She is staked and buried. In the future, a criminal is stabbed to death over her grave and his blood returns her to life. She sets out to enthrall humans, while still keeping a low profile to avoid the same fate. But, when she tried to ensare a cop, his DA girlfriend goes after Kristina with a vengeance! The ending definitely leaves room for continuation in Chapter 2.The story was good, but the art was excellent. The proprotions were well done (though all the breasts are huge, of course), and the colors vibrant. This is the first adult graphic novel I read (not counting yaoi) and I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the publications. Beautiful perfect bound edition, glossy cover and pages, and fulkl-color throughout. If you like vampires, and some hot action, don't pass this up.

Truly fun erotica with cheesy translations but an interesting storyline
This somewhat oddly-titled series is an import from NBM's Eurotica imprint, created by Dutch author/artist Frank Mensink and then translated into English. I tell you this at the beginning so that you won't be disappointed by the rather strange dialogue, which veers back and forth between spot-on, almost childishly silly, and downright bizarre. If you've ever read HEAVY METAL magazine, chances are that you've already been exposed to this phenomenon. For whatever reason, the distributors of foreign comics will spend boatloads on top artistic talent, and then apparently hire the cheapest translators they can find. This is a shame, because KRISTINA is that rarest of creatures, an erotic comic with a fun and engaging storyline. The protagonist was slain in the Middle Ages by an angry mob, but apparently they weren't very thorough about it; some fresh blood in her unmarked grave restores her to unlife in the modern day. What makes this interesting is that Kristina seems committed to turning over a new leaf: after preying on the innocent in her first unlife, she decides this time around to feed only on criminals, the human flotsam whose deaths will be unnoticed (or at least unlamented). She quickly takes a couple of human thralls to help protect her during the day, and it's obvious that she truly cares for them.Kristina's actions bring her into conflict with the human protagonists, a pair of very horny police investigators named Mike and Iris who are trying to find out why street thugs keep showing up exsanguinated. Mike has some kind of mystic connection to Kristina, which causes the vamp to become obsessed with claiming him as her eternal soulmate -- something that Iris obviously objects to. For all that she is trying to be a better person (so to speak), Kristina really doesn't care what Iris wants, and her blithe willingness to try stealing Mike away from the human woman is the one thing that costs her sympathy with the audience. Still, Kristina is such a fun character that it's hard to root against her, even as we also hope for a happy ending for Mike and Iris. The quality of the art is generally very high, with great facial expressions and gorgeous colors and shading. It occasionally veers toward the more cartoony, particularly when blood and gore are involved, but that doesn't really detract from it.On the whole, this is a very well-done book, if you can forgive the shortcomings in the translation. If you like sexy stories about vampires, this one and its sequel are both worth a look.

Corny as hell.
Camp, silly, and for adults only. Yet the artwork is well done and if you are a fan of vampires I would suggest it for your collection. Whitewolf fan or a fan of Dracula, give Kristina a try.And if you like her, this is only chapter one.

Cannot judge a book by its cover
A vampire erotic story? Given the display of a good looking cover, plus great recommendations from the readers here, I made an order of the book with anticipation of a graphic novel which boomz me. I was expecting the book to arrive somewhere Febuary 2010 as adviced by Amazon and I was very surprise indeed that Amazon speed up the delivery through courier service. The cover of the book really gave me a lot more confidence of what's inside. Unfortunately, I am a little disappointed because the graphic inside definitely not as good as out side. Of course I am a little bias in this especially after I read Seperie's Druuna. The writer seems to be at an initial phase of his comic career because the dialogue is relatively amature. Further more, he failed to properly angle each picture to further enhance the standard of this comic, not to mention putting effort on the back ground of every picture. The artist give me a feeling that he is having an easy way out, cut down on the story telling and focus on sex. The story line indeed seems very simple and more about highlighting the sex part. If the artist is trying to arouse the reader, it really failed on me. I would still prefer one with better story line.As for the good part, for someone who has just started his career in comics line (I think), he certainly has a good grasp online work. The human figures is well represented.I would recommend you to buy if you like the cover.

Unfocused but delicious.
Frans Mensink, Kristina, Queen of Vampires, vol. 1 (Nantier Beall Minoustchine, 2005)NBM, purveyors of everything from graphic adaptations of Proust to the basest porn, bring the kickoff volume of a series of the latter to American shores. As we open, it's medieval times, and Kristina is hunted down and staked by a band of outraged (yet aroused) peasants and their pet priest. Fast-forward to modern times, when a drug deal gone wrong ends with blood dripping down into Kristina's grave, allowing her to rise again and pick up where she left off hundreds of years ago. The only ones up against her are a pair of randy police officers who spend as much time in bed as they do on the case. Yeah, it's porn, but I have to give Mensink credit for at least trying to thread in something resembling a plot here. Not a bad way to kill a half-hour. ***

Nun, um was geht es in Kristina - Queen of Vampires?

Good fun - a tongue-in-cheek romp
This book is basically a Hammer Horror - unserious, self-mocking, irreverent - only set in America and containing explicit porn instead of the salacious titillation that was all they were allowed in that medium in those days.Kristina is a (going by the clothing) 16/17th century vampire resurrected in the modern day. She only feeds (fatally) on criminals, making her a cross between Carmilla and The Punisher. The story rattles along at a break-neck pace and the devil take the cliches - but if you are going to do a vampire story how could you avoid cliche in such an overloaded subgenre? It doesn't try to be anything than a good, sexy laugh. It does not take itself at all seriously, in fact it winks at you constantly as you read it. Kristina's cheerful enthusiasm, whether it's for tearing someone's throat out with her pointy teeth or offering up her anus to be sodomised, is utterly charming. The artwork is very good, if not great. This is very much a good-natured, though adult, spoof.
