Play, Sing & Dance : An Introduction to Orff SchulwerkDoug Goodkin's resource is a valuable part of any music teachers resource collection. The enthusiasm he has for teaching music through the Orff discipline is evident and infectious. This book was recommended to me through my University course and I will frequently use it in my teaching. If you aren't sure about Orff you will be after reading this book.

I've heard that Doug Goodkin is the Orff guru of this generation. I'm sure he is an amazing musician and educator. I just didn't find this book of essays all that engaging. I guess I was hoping for something more solid and meaty for those new to Orff, instead of just a collection of essays around the theme of Orff. I got about halfway through it, forcing myself, before I quit.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The author is a great writer, very engaging and inspiring with alot of helpful information for anyone working with elementary children. It really encourages you to stretch beyond your comfort level and try new ideas.I always enjoy academic writing that is able to communicate a lot of valuable imformation without being dry. This certainly fits that description.

This is a good book for ideas on how to engage the students in moving (use of space), introducing a large variety of instruments and even using the body as an instrument by clapping, slapping, stomping, vocalizing, etc. Lots of good ideas and how to do's which is very helpful. A great intro to Orff Schulwerk!

Excellent. Helps me understand Orff process better.

As expected for school course work

I found this to be an excellent overview of Orff media. When I was a brand new music teacher, it really helped me "learn to fish", so to speak. I've also trained with the author a few times as part of the NCAOSA. Not only is he a very good, clear writer, he's very kind. Doug has always been willing to sit and chat about ideas and help me out along the way.

Sometimes when I'm feeling frustrated or like I've run out of steam (the middle of the school year!), I like to pick up this book to remind myself exactly what I'm doing here. This is a great book on Orff and definitely recharges my batteries a bit.
