A very easy to use guide
Having just moved to Maryland, we were curious about the birds that we were seeing in our back yard and at our feeders. A friend in Ohio showed me his edition, specific to Ohio, and I ordered this book on Maryland birds.Birds of Maryland and Delaware is a very (VERY!) easy to use guide for the casual spectator and the curious. We had been using a Peterson guide, but this book is much more helpful and uses photographs, rather than artist renderings. The color thumb guide also makes this a easy guide to operate. My five star rating for this book means that we have reviewed the book, like its writing style, have found the book exceedingly handy to use, and have no qualms about recommending it.

Best bird guide EVER
This is the best guide I have ever seen for identifying birds...The clear photos make it easy to identify males or females; the exact descriptions help enormously when you are trying to distinguish between birds that look similar; the layout (by color) enables the reader to quickly turn to the right section; the knowledge of the author is truly vast; and the author has included every bird you can think of in the area of coverage. If you are just buying one guide, this one will be the perfect choice!

My favorite book!
This is my favorite book. I keep it on a shelf on my front porch. I have 12 bird feeders in the tree in my yard. They attract at least 15 different bird species. I use the book often to identify birds or to learn more about each different bird. The pictures are beautiful and really are helpful when bird watching. I have given the book as a gift. I highly recommend the book to anyone interested in bird watching.

Quick reference for Delmarva birds
The size of this book along with the color grouping make it easy and quick to use when out in the field or on the porch. Abundance of information on each bird along with helpful photos of both sexes. This has become my go-to book when trying to identify an unfamiliar bird.

Can actually identify birds with this book.
Update: 4-25-2018 Our copy is still going strong, pages are intact. The identical boy triplets are now 9 years old and big sister is 12. The book has served them all. Also used by most people who visit. Everyone loves how easy it is to use. It is not a book for extensive research, but it does identify birds so that you can look them up. Too many guides are written for people who are really into birds and are impossible for those of us who have a casual interest in birds to use.******************************************************************************************************************Most guides have so many entries that it is impossible for a beginner to use. My 6 year old grandaughter has been easily able to identify birds coming to my bird feeder with this book.As many have stated, it is organized simply by color with separate entries for male and female when needed.A few improvements would have made it a 5 star.-One of my neighbors was unable to find a bird that nests in his yard here in Central Maryland. It simply is not there. Missing a few birds?- So many entries for brown birds. Needs to be a way to break the category down more. Perhaps all brown, brown and white, etc.- Not sure why the hawks are listed so far apart in the book. red shouldered on p.179, red-tailed on 191.- Would be nice to have more views of the birds from different angles.

Perhaps as good as a Peterson Field Guide
This was a gift to a lady who has the misfortune to live in Maryland -- that capital of quarantine. She likes to look at birds out of her front window. Being unable to find a Peterson for Maryland, I sent this book instead. She has found it very useful and is full of praise for the book. She keeps it on a cabinet by ger front window so she can identify new birds at her feeder.

Great reference book
I love that the sections are by color and the index makes it very easy to find particular birds. A great addition to my library.

Great guide for kids
Good quality guide that my boys (ages 12 and 13) love to use for identifying our backyard birds. They like just leafing through it too and reading about birds' habitats and behaviors. All very accurate information, clear photos. Definitely recommend for kids and adults
