More Killing Defence at Bridge (Master Bridge Series)

In the same style as "Killing Defence", this book explains good defensive technique and then illustrates it with many example deals, most of which can be tackled as problems. The central themes are discarding, and creating/removing options for declarer. The hands are almost all quite difficult, and some are extremely tricky. The overall quality of the deals and of the writing is very high.

Anyone who enjoyed and benefitted from "Killing Defence at Bridge" will be very pleased to have more of the same from Hugh Kelsey. Reading this book and solving the problems is as good as playing bridge at the table, in my opinion, and far more beneficial to your ability at the game.

E' un libro per giocatori esperti, incentrato sugli scarti che un difensore si trova ad affrontare. Ogni smazzata richiede una attenta analisi su licita, punti, prese ed una previsione su come il dichiarante svilupperà il gioco. Direi un libro unico nel suo genere. Quando ho scritto questa recensione ho letto solo alcune smazzate, ma non credo di sbagliare sul giudizio complessivo.

前作のKilling Defenceより難しい問題というよりは、方向性が違う。前作で扱っていなかった分野を補完した感じ。具体的には「ディスカード」と「オプション」について交互に書かれてある。ディスカードは、ディフェンスにおいて常に考えなくてはならない物だから、実用度は非常に高い。オプションに関しては、章タイトルにかならずOptionと書いてはいるものの、内容は多岐に渡る。ラインが2つあるときにどちらを選ぶか、ディクレアラーのミスゲスを増やす、等。　前作が手筋一発の問題が多かったのに比べると、まともにカウントを要求される問題が多く、ディフェンスの本の中では実戦の複雑な状況に近い問題があり、かなり役に立つ。
