The Breakfast Book
M**C
A comforting book of family favorites
I usually cook from recipes I find online, but this book has earned its place on my small shelf of cookbooks. Just flipping through it gives you a homey, comforting feeling and makes you want to make a big breakfast. It has old-fashioned recipes reminiscent of the Betty Crocker cookbook from the 50s for all the usual American breakfast staples, but it also has some unexpected recipes, like fresh ginger muffins and papaya pickles. My favorites are the overnight waffles, plain pancakes, and lemon curd. Recipes for these things can be found online, of course, but I enjoy using this book, and the versions here are our family favorites.

This is the cookbook you want
SO comprehensive - so many breakfast recipes. Some very classic and old-fashioned and many I've never heard of but try them! This cookbook is solid. If a recipe is in here I'd rather make it here because they're simple, the flavors are correct, and while many of the recipes use sugar they're not too sweet. My favorites:- Overnight steel cut oatmeal- Sausage and applesauce toast

Wonderful reliable recipes
Like it's companion, The Supper Book, The Breakfast Book is as tried and true as a cookbook can be. The recipes are easy to follow; the results reliable. I've given this book to others many times.

Not really any new recipes here
Cute little book of breakfast recipes but nothing really new or unusual. Not sure what I expected since I’ve looked at breakfast ideas for 50 years. For a new cook this might be a nice collection of recipes.

A Treasured Family Recipe Book
My mother bought this book decades ago and when I saw that hers was damaged over many years of use, I suggested trying to find a replacement on Amazon. We were both pleased that the book was still in print so she bought a replacement book for herself and one each for my sister and me. Our family's favorite breakfasts are within: yeasted waffles and buttermilk pancakes -- the absolute best!! Who needs to go to a restaurant when the best recipes can be found in this book!

Should be in Every Kitchen!!
As much as you may think you don't need a breakfast cookbook...... This book is wonderful!! In just a few days I have made 3 of the recipes and each one was excellent. The recipes are easy to follow and very very quick from start to finish.I have over a hundred books and this cookbook is one I will use often..How many times can you really say that!!The fact that it has no pictures is no biggie.. You really don't need them at all. I too love pics and yet in this book I'm so happy to have more of the recipes than to have nice pics to look at. I sooo hope Marion writes a second breakfast book. You will be sooo thrilled to own this book!!! Highly suggest buying ASAP!!!!Ordered from Amazon and like all my purchases from Amazon shipping was even faster than indicated,,packaging perfect..Love love Amazon!!! So dependable!!

Outdated
The book is a beautiful old fashioned cook book with a large number of recipes that can be used for breakfast inspiration. However, the large number of recipes means that no recipe can go into great detail. There’s simply not enough explanation to reproduce a great tasting dish. The techniques in the book are also out dated. For example, temperature is an important part of achieving a great hollandaise sauce. Most modern recipes indicate the temperature that the butter should be: 180-190F. But, the book is old enough that thermometers aren’t used which will make the recipes less reliable. All in all, it’s a great collection of old fashioned recipes, but is better as a coffee table piece than a book you can use to improve your cooking.

Absolute classic!
Cunningham's book should be called The-Not-Just-For-Breakfast-Book because the recipes range from cereals, eggs, muffins, etc. to yeast breads, cookies, pies, cakes and puddings, on to meat, fish, and jellies and relishes. The book is a must for any cook, and it makes a fabulous gift to be treasured by food loving family and friends. I have used more recipes from The Breakfast Book than any other cookbook in my collection. I love the introductions to the recipes; they make you want to head to the kitchen. And some will put a smile on your face - does anyone make knothole eggs as a treat for their children anymore? More's the pity.Over the years I've tried every variation of the Great Coffee Cake recipe, the version with five teaspoons of vanilla extract being the frontrunner. It's a must for family brunch gatherings. My go-to recipes for plain and raised waffles, fresh ginger cake and soft gingerbread, several different pancakes & numerous condiments all come from this book. I'd be lost without it.
