Enjoyable read
Planning a trip to Bali next January and this book gave me a good idea of what the people were like and the gentleness of the culture. I'll have a better time now that I've read this book

Engaging read
An insightful preparation for one planning time in Bali, Ingram's book explains much about the culture and traditional life of the Balinese.

Bali Good
I'm traveling to Bali soon and wanted something different than the travel guides of where to go and what to see. This book offers an inside look into one Balinese family and the American author who lived with them in Ubud and traveled some around Indonesia. It's a good story.

I have just finished reading this wonderful book, many thanks to William Ingram and all of the colourful characters within the covers. A beautiful, expressive, enlightening, and educative story. A must read for those who enjoy immersing themselves in another culture, but also enjoy the knowledge that comes often via the frustration and difficulties involved. I am currently in Ubud and will defiantly be visiting The Threads of Life, having worked in NGO's in Vietnam I can only imagine how difficult this venture must have been to get of the ground. Well done William and Jean Ingram. Thank you for sharing your amazing journey which I respect, a have enjoyed.

A great read from a great person
I am Balinese and William, and his wife, Jean, live just down the road from me in Ubud. They are exactly the sort of neighbours we like to have. They have joined in and contributed to village life.As is evident from the stories in this book, they have participated in and gained an understanding of our complex, but fascinating, culture. When they first arrived, they stayed with a Balinese family in the village, and many of the stories relate to incidents in the family's life. Many of them are typical, so it's a very good introduction to Balinese life for anyone visiting Bali.It is clearly and beautifully and sympathetically written and the photographs are good.Like me they are passionate about textiles and they are doing great work in reviving and keeping alive dying textile traditions throughout Indonesia.Recommended.MurniUbud

A peek at the real Bali
I'm planning a trip to Bali and love to read books about people who live there. I loved learning about what is important to the Balinese and how loving they seem to be.
