Current Protocols Essential Laboratory Techniques

Good starting point for building a protocols reference library
As you work in a lab, you learn that no one does things the same way. There are always little steps people put in to try and improve a protocol. Maybe it's rational, maybe it's just superstition. This book gives a solid foundation on which to build. It covers both the actual protocols and the theory behind the protocols. The book agrees pretty well with what I'm learning in my lab. There are a few minor discrepancies. I've found that a lot of labs add extra steps that are not needed. It probably worked slightly better, or didn't hurt, so the step stayed in the protocol. But it's probably not really needed. The book presents protocols without a lot of "do this step just in case", which I like.

Not so "essential" techniques
I could have written a better book -- blindfolded -- with my left hand!

A timely update
The first edition was a good reliable text, so its good to see an update hitting the shelves. It has added chapters on new techniques including confocal, which I helped with (disclaimer).

Very thorough lab protocols and explanations of how different technologies work. Some chapters are repetitive and it is missing some information such as 2D gels and westerns. Can be quite technical for those new to lab studies.

素晴らしい
分子生物学の基本的な原理が学べる一冊。ネットで怪しい情報に従うのではなく、キチンとした実験書に従うべきだと改めて感じさせられる。
