Raid on the Sun: Inside Israel's Secret Campaign that Denied Saddam the Bomb

reads like a thriller, but it’s reality
This was an exciting, yet easy read. The author does a great job of detailing all that came before the day of the mission, the event, and the result from both sides. Reads like a thriller, but truthful to the history of the event. Highly recommend to any student of military history.

Very interesting to have a glimpse of history from the inside! It took 20+ years, but worth the wait.
This was recommended by a pastor on the radio ... who said it was a "guy's book." WELL, I'm a gal, and I loved this -- it was well written and though I lived through this time frame, I didn't have any idea of the "details" until this book. It was a great, thrilling, informational read. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for true life "action," whether they are male or female.

Understanding History
Raid on the Sun is a very clearly written book explaining the planning and execution of the Israeli raid on the Iraqi nuclear reactor in 1980. It is a book that reads quickly and is hard to put down. Today, many ask, whether Israel will neutralize the Iranian nuclear capabilities? While dispersion of Iran's capabilities are much wider than was Iraq's, Israel has many more resources and alternatives. However, the planning explained in the book is the least the Israeli's must do to understake such an endeavor.

Well documented
A good read for any fan of history, for the advanced military historian it might come off a little elementary in spots but plenty of technical details. It is however a fantastic and detailed account of a major historic event that has both been under-studied and for which plenty of the details are still classified. The order of the "story" can be a little strange at times (especially the final segment following the climax) and as some readers have noticed later chapters seem to spell out details already known and expanded on - however it's clear from notes at the end the order of events and chapters was played with in editing so understandably some repetitive explanations occur as a result. In doing so the author gains a tension that drives the reader to keep going in what would have otherwise been a very dry and technical series of chapters followed by a few pages of action. A worth while trade in my opinion.I did drop a star on the basis a great deal of history is spelled out prior to the raid, but not a single mention of the history even 7 days after the attack is discussed (with exception to the obvious change it had on the 1991 Gulf War). There was so much coverage of Saddam's program prior to June 7, 1981 but not even a mention of his reaction to the attack, not the fallout from him.Great read, highly recommended.

Excellent portrayal of the covert mission
Was totally ill-informed about Saddam Husseein's efforts to acquire weapons of mass destruction and Israel's discovery of, and destruction of, his ability to get "the bomb" Israel would be adroit if the same raid was perpetrated on Iran before it is too late.

tells what the Israelis can do
is a very good account of how the Israelis pulled off this mission. I plan to reread this book again at a future date.

Fantastic
I once read the actions on this event, back in the day that it happened from either "Newsweek" or "Aviation & Space Technology" magazines! After reading the book and magazine, both stories confirmed the actions! It was thrilling, it was hard for me to put the book down, I read it in two days and that is a marvel for me!!!!It arrived in a very timely time, in good condition, it is a keep sake....
