An excellent introduction to aromatherapy, essential oils and their uses; but short on detailed scientific evidence
I purchased the Kindle edition at $0. I think anyone interested in aromatherapy will enjoy this book and gain a better understanding of essential oils and aromatherapy, in general. Among the interesting things it teaches is how essential oils are produced and how you can apply them. It has nice summaries of the uses and purported effects of each of the popular essential oils (like lavender, frankincense, and rose), as well as many less common oils. It also examines them by the conditions they treat and has sections contributed by additional aromatherapy experts. These provide added depth to the material. Another useful section details the components of essential oils such as terpenes. The Complete Guide is short on scientific studies and references with regard to effects and detailed biochemical mechanisms of action (as is the field of aromatherapy in general, unfortunately). The prevailing belief that "essential oils affect the limbic system in the brain" is not complete scientific evidence of how they work or of how effective they are. The therapeutics in the book rely to a large extent on prevailing beliefs and consensus among aromatherapy practitioners. If you want a heavily technical and scientific book on essential oils, full of scientific studies and chemical analyses, you might try ESSENTIAL OILS: Science, Technology, and Applications by K. Husnu Can Baser, et al. Interestingly, while this technical book contains much evidence of pharmacological and psychological effects of essential oils, the authors stress that many questions are yet unanswered. For example, in some cases, men and women respond differently to the same oil; in some cases, only placebo effect was detected; and in some cases, benefits from certain oils are not achieved unless they are administered in specific dose ranges for extended periods of time (anywhere from several minutes to several weeks, depending on the specific oil and its intended application). The Complete Guide To Clinical Aromatherapy at $0 is partly a lead-in to encourage readers to purchase other books by the author. That is not an issue or drawback, however, as the book is fairly thorough (except for the lack of scientific studies and citations). I would be hard-pressed to call it a "Complete" Guide, as the field of aromatherapy is evolving and changing, and much more research needs to be done to provide scientific evidence of the effectiveness of different essential oils in various medical conditions. If aromatherapy interests you--whether you are a beginner or a seasoned expert--this book is well worth reading. At $0, I might even call it indispensable as an introduction to the field. Of all the free books available on aromatherapy (there are a few on Amazon), this one is the best I've found.

One of the best, YOU MUST READ.
I really enjoyed this book and I was so glad to see she shared information in it that others neglect. I felt confident she knows her profession and didn't throw a lot of useless or dangerous recipes out there. I've read several books by other experts, and really questioned their advise in their books, but I felt totally comfortable with the advise given in this book. Kindle friendly, easy navigation, and easy to understand. I loved the history of essential oils chapter, it didn't bore me to tears. I downloaded all her other books and I can't wait to get to them. Seriously if I could afford to get certified, I would right now, but money is tight right now. Being the only survivor of cancer in my family makes natural health prevention a must for me, and herbal and plant medicines just may have saved my life during chemo, so I know the power of plants for healing! If more people read this book for free, there would be less harmful information on essential oils posted on the internet, soap and bath makers like myself would be more careful in the amounts and types of essential oils used in bath products, and ordinary persons would treat themselves to natural remedies instead of commercial products. Case in point: I've used lavender essential oil neat on a third degree burn on the tip of my finger, and in three days the wound healed with little pain and no scar!!! Incredible, no commercial product could do that! I use lavender on my pillow at night to help me stay asleep, my prescribed sleeping aid can't do that,so my doctor was thrilled to stop prescribing them to me :).I'm thankful I found this book, I would pay for it, but would also love the hard copy to keep with my other reference books.

My search is over!
I have read several books on aromatherapy. They all fall short somewhere, however the only place this book falls short is the mental and spiritual side. Not to worry tho, because the author admits it, and has another book that addresses just that! Do I feel jaded? Absolutely not and I will explain. Aromatherapy is so much more than some oils! This book focuses on the body, and this book is exactly what you need for the physical side. The author has an ability to explain all the scientific, chemical, constituents type stuff in a way that a stay at home mom can understand! That alone is priceless. She has a very no nonsense stance on safety, which I love. Reading this book is like spending an afternoon conversing with a dear friend, or even grandma. She tells stories as she talks about the oils, and their origins. She is not long winded or boring, so if you don’t care about myrrh history at all, skip the little paragraph. I read them all, and felt a deeper connection to the oils. The book is well organized, has tons of oil profiles. There are extra downloads that are free, and go into more detail on certain oils. There is so much I could say about this book, but I will try to end on this note. I feel if I had to have just 1 book, this would be it. I will be purchasing essential oil of the mind spirit by this author, I believe with these 2 books I will have all I absolutely need, but there is always room for more learning!

Essential oils written by someone with knowledge of her subject
I cannot recommend this book highly enough. As a complete beginner with essential oils I feel as if I am in a safe pair of hands taking Elizabeth’s advice. Not only is the book informative, it is well structured and easy to find what you are looking for and written in a friendly semi humorous style that makes it a pleasure to read.

Great Freebie for Beginners
I am interested in Aromatherapy and have made massage oils, used an oil burner and an ioniser for various purposes. I discovered several years ago that essential oils work incredibly well in healing minor cuts and bruises, for relaxation and easing stress. What was difficult to find was a good, general beginner's guide for a reasonable price. With this book Elizabeth Ashley has solved my problem. A free encyclopaedia of essential oils to cover many purposes.Ashley covers the history of aromatherapy, its uses by Greeks and Egyptians through to the present day. Details of the uses and risks of different essential oils are discussed, along with methods of abstraction.Individual oils are desribed and lists of their use for treating various ailments given. There are also recipes for blending and ways to use in treatment or massage.Using the advice in the book, I no longer have an annoying verruca. It took quite a while to go, but at a fraction of the cost of expensive chemical formulas that may not have worked.I am not sure if I have read an out of date edition because much reference is made in the book to downloadable monographs for certain oils, but I found the provided links no longer work.Overall one of the better free reference books I have downloaded for my Kindle and I will certainly consider the rest of "The Secret Healer" series.

Lots of great information
I loved the course, so much information and so interesting the way you delivered it. I then read the book and there was so much more information to use and listing the essential oils and then listing what each oil is being used for and also showing who not to use it for. I learned so much and have to say this course I bought so far was best value for money.

Highly recommended
This book is a great introduction to aromatherapy. It has the most essential of the oils and is easy to read. It has an index so you choose an oil or search for them in terms of ailments. It also mentions contradictions with illnesses and neurological problems so you know which oils to avoid. I have found this book very useful and it was free to download to the kindle app on my iPhone. Highly recommended
