A tonic for your soul...
Many believers read their Bibles and often they also read daily devotionals to enhance their spiritual life. But finding something that is spiritually worthwhile can be a daunting task. If you are looking for something meaty, spiritual, and refreshing - in short, a tonic for your soul, then consider this little book. You will not be disappointed.Puritans are a treasure for Christians. Their writings are profound, gospel-centered, and Christ-centered. And their writings are deeply pastoral - like a spiritual physician, they apply the balm of healing to the afflicted souls.1. PHYSICAL MAKE-UP OF THE BOOK. This is a small book, it measures 6.6" x 4.5" x 1" so it can be portable. And it is handsomely bound: Smyth-sewn (pages are stitched and not glued), and imitation leather is attractive. Pages are strong and thick. But fonts are on the smaller side (my guess is either 7.5 or 8), yet clear and legible.2. CONTENT. Without a doubt, there is no equal when it comes to Puritan's spirituality. You will see this in the book again and again. It exalts God and His love while ministering to struggling saints to behold Christ and His loveliness. Here is a sample, "Pardon sweetens all mercies. Other mercies are a ring, but pardon is the diamond in it" (Stephen Charnock, March 16). Here is another, "Meditation on Christ's love will set our eyes full of tears for our gospel unkindnesses... Meditation on Christ's love will make us love our enemies... He loved His enemies... He prayed for His enemies, 'Father forgive them'; He shed His tears - for those who shed His blood! Those who gave Him gall and vinegar to drink - to them He gave His sin-forgiving blood to drink. Meditation on His love - should melt our hearts in love to our enemies" (Thomas Watson, December 16). The book covers various topics: Love of God for the saints, Dealing with afflictions, and Christian life (faith, repentance, knowledge, grace, etc).3. LAYOUT. There are 12 Puritans for 12 months. 12 Puritan cover one month each. They are: Richard Baxter (Jan), John Bunyan (Feb), Stephen Charnock (Mar), Jonathan Edwards (Apr), John Flavel (May), William Gurnall (June), William Guthrie (Jul), Thomas Manton (Aug), John Owen (Sep), Samuel Rutherford (Oct), Thomas Vincent (Nov), and Thomas Watson (Dec). And each month begins with a short biography of the Puritan. This helps readers to become familiar with the Puritan he/she is reading. All in all, you will soon love the Puritans! And you will never go back to shallow devotionals of our day. Highly recommended!

Puritans Studied their Bible and it Shows in this Book!
Since I came across John Bunyan's work, I am most impressed and inspired by the Puritans. This is a wonderful daily devotional, it says it how it is and reminds you, to stay on the straight and narrow path, pure and simple.Matthew 7:13“Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it.James 1:22"But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves."

Challenging and Inspirational
The Puritan writers are always challenging us to live above the fray and they do so in this book. I like that each month there is a page bio on the writer and then each day of the month is some of that writer's material. I highly recommend this if you are interested in being challenged in "old style English" writing. Sometimes you have read it several times and look up some of the words, but it is a great opportunity to grow in your Christian life.

Nice but wish it was an abridged version
I really like this pocket edition of puritan devotionals. My only wish is that it wasn’t quite so “Puritan“ in the language they use. I wish the author would have feathered out the language a little to make it more modern without having to struggle to understand what the author was trying to say. Otherwise no problems.

Key Doctrinal reminder
Used as one of my daily devotionals.Puritians accurately nail reformed key Christian doctrines in this book. Look forward to reading it every morning and being reminded of the obedience believers are held to.

Beautiful devotional for those that read the Puritans
This is a great little devotional for those that read the Puritans. I have found the bookbinding to be very good and the faux leather cover to be adequate. The content is edifying and is a good morning devotional.
