Solid build and improvement in sound quality using balanced
I'm writing this with the price point of £35 in mind. This is very inexpensive for a balanced XLR cable, with most other offerings selling for around/over £100. I'm using this with the Beyerdynamic Amiron Home, and the Beyerdynamic T5P Gen2, paired with a Schiit Jotunheim balanced amplifier (using a multi-bit DAC).Build - The build quality is solid, I feel like it should easily last me a while. Equally it doesn't feel premium, you are getting what you pay for. It's a thin cable, I expected it to feel quite soft and flexible (like the many similar looking braided IEM cables), but it is quite rigid and hard plastic feeling to the touch. Anytime I moved at my desk. the rigid cable was prone to rubbing against clothing or my chair, which caused microphonics in the headphones. These were very audible.Amiron Home Sound - The sound quality was great to my ears. I was previously using the single ended stock cable that came with the T5P, for both the Amiron and T5P. The stock is a nice 1.5m cable that suits sitting at a desk. I immediately noticed a difference in sound quality when running this balanced cable. The Amiron Home received a slight improvement in separation and definition (which was already very good). I noticed a smile inducing improvement that brought extra life to them. However, I haven't tried any other balanced cables in this setup, this Ablet one is my first. But an improvement is an improvement, so top marks in that respect, I won't be going back to single ended with the Amiron.T5P Sound - Unfortunately, I didn't get the same improvement with the T5P. Perhaps the T5P just doesn't suit running a balanced connection, or perhaps the Amiron suddenly sounded so good that the T5P was left in the shade. I felt the extra separation made them sound slightly less lively. I think I'll stick to the stock cable with the T5P. But when I get a more premium balanced cable in the future, and can compare, I will put an update on here. All in all, for £35 this is a great buy. It doesn't have the premium feel of cables 3 or 4 times the price, but that should be expected. The most important thing is that it sounded great with my Amiron Home, which was the reason I bought it. I just wish they'd use a softer plastic on the cable strands. Cheaper braided IEM cables have that, and as a result have less microphonics when the cable is touched. That's the reason I scored it 4 stars instead of 5.
