It works.
When I first bought a Wii U I didn't have an HD tv. This meant i had to go to a friend's house just so I could do the initial set up on the console. Afterwards, I was able to play on the gamepad. Realizing it wasn't working out for me, I ordered this cable. And it worked on my RCA tv just fine. Not sure if it gives the best possible picture, but I have no complaints. It works.I eventually bought an HD TV. Haven't used this cable again.

Misleading Do not buy
I bought this item yesterday. The picture specifically shows an svideo cable, but when I got in in the mail it was a cheap component cable. Do not buy if what you need is svideo. I want a refund.

close to the orginal Wii cable
This cable seems close to the original Wii cable, but with the S-Video option. Works great. Cable did match product description.
