An other great ride with David Sloane
Dugoni has out done himself with this book. It’s a up and down hill thrill ride that has a wonderful ending if not what the reader expects. Buy it and enjoy it. It’s just plain good.

Not only a great lawyer story...
But a fantastic father story. David Sloane, the lawyer, must determine at trial, who held the responsibility for a defective and deadly toy. The trial revealed the death of a child who died from magnets that were inside the toy and failed to stay inside the toy. Who was responsible, the toy maker or parental negligence?David was able to show the magnets inside the toy were dangerous and deadly. But David had to realize what was best for his own son, because of his demanding lawyer career. He chose to allow for his son to be with his deceased mother's parents. Letting his son go, was very difficult, but showed the capacity of his love for his son!

David Sloane takes on the toy manufacturers!
This is the third installment of Robert Dugoni's series featuring David Sloane, a Seattle attorney, who has a reputation for never losing a civil case. When we last read about David, he had finally found the love of his life and was about to adopt her 13 year old son, Jake. They lived in a great house and life was good, and it looked like it would get even better. As the book opens, David is about to go into the courtroom to hear the verdict of his current medical malpractice case against a pediatrician that he believed to be responsible for the unnecessary death of a six year old. Before David can open the doors, a young man comes up to him and tells him that the doctor was NOT the reason the child died. This seemingly delusional information caused David some discomfort, and yet he had to continue to the end of this case, despite his misgivings, and ended up with a favorable verdict. The thing that blows this whole thing up in the water for David is that he finds out that another child died with the same symptoms, and David chooses to investigate matters further.Enter Kendall Toys. A toy mfg that has been around for almost 100 years, and unbeknownst to the general public and Board, has turned to China to manufacture the next great toy since Elmo. The lengths to which the owners cover up potentially damanging information is beyond belief. And yet, David keeps pursuing them, to find out the truth about this children's deaths, and to prevent any future harm to innocent children. This story is a bit short on the trademark courtroom scenes that I have come to like about Dugoni's stories, and some of the action and characters are a bit too cliched. There are some very powerful and emotional parts to the story that make up for some of this, but not all. Dugoni's portrayal of Sloane's pursuit of the villains is a bit silly and he knocks off characters as if they were cut-outs in a shooting gallery.I did enjoy the fictional inside workings of a toy mfg and got a bit creeped out thinking about all the recent recalls for the toys that were made in China. Like most of us, I have children and grandchildren and can't even keep up with all the latest recalls.Overall, I felt this book was a good read, and while some of the characters were not believable, this story had a lot about it that made it interesting and entertaining.

this one brought tears
I’ve enjoyed all the David Sloan books. The character is so confident and smart and honest. This one is so tragic and so very touching in the end. Brought a few tears to my eyes. First time for that to happen. I would recommend any of Robert Dugoni’s books. Great writing

A novel about toy manufacturing conglomerates and cold blooded murder.
Toy making can be extremely lucrative. One successful toy can mean millions of dollars to a given toy company. The competition is fierce between large toy companies. This is the premise of this story. Two children have died from similar symptoms; abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting, high fever. Both kids had been playing with a newly released prototype. Their parents indirectly associated with this toys' manufacturer were given the opportunity to test this toy, and as hoped, their kids loved the toy. Through a remarkable turn of events, the toys' creator realized their was a very critical and dangerous problem. But millions of dollars had already been spent getting the toy out there. All these events lead to deceipt, cover up, and murder. It's up to David Sloan, an upcoming whiz of an attorney who never loses a case to litigate this case and hold the powers to be ultimately responsible.

Bodily Harm
Robert Dugoni has a real talent for writing. He covers all emotions from happiness to sadness and everything in between. I could hardly put this book down. It kept me on the edge of my seat.

Don't toy with Sloane
Having got at least a third of the way through this book, I put it down and read something else before coming back to it - mainly because I had run out of new releases to read. I was also intending a three-star rating at this point. However, the pace did pick up quite considerably, hence my four-star rating. The author is on much safer ground when he is in the courtroom. That part of it reads well, sufficient to sustain the interest.Where he's less sure is in his character build up. David Sloane is the fantastic 'never-lose-a-case' attorney, so he's rolling in money. He's able to splosh it around when necessary to help to aleviate a problem which makes life rather easy.It does harden when he becomes involved in a toy manufacturer's dream new model which is turning into a nightmare for them. Unexplained deaths become part of the problem for the manufacturer and so begins (halfway through) a tense game of cat and mouse. avoiding a killer on the one hand, ferreting out truths and half-truths as the toy nears its release date. The story works. It's fairly run-of-the-mill as far as the thriller side of it goes but, as I said, when inside the Courtroom, it reads very well.I hadn't come across the author before so I'll look out for any new releases - though I may well read a review or two before committing myself to a purchase.

Legal Eagle best
My usual genre is detective novels about serial killers. I was recommended this book by a friend and having read the previous David Sloan book I gave it a go. Not giving anything much away but Robert a huge error to kill off Tricia to soon. Just ordered the third one.
