Every recipe I've tried has been very good. My grandmother was black and a fantastic cook. She died before she could teach all her secrets. This cookbooks has helped me come at least close to the outright miracles she could bring out of simple ingredients.

I finally got a chance to sit down and overview this book. I normally do with all my books but I couldn't put this one down. The blocks of stories and memories of ancestors truly makes me appreciate Every thing I have. It also makes me feel like I am tasting my heritage as I will begin to make the food. The recipes are simple ingredients and easy to find at any grocery store. I love this book.

I have a bunch of African American cookbooks and this is the one I visit the most. If you can get the spiral bound one do so, a cookbook that stays open is invaluable! The recipes are great, organized kind of weird but I would eat most of what's in here. I also like that there are "lost recipes" like chow chow and pigs feet. Mostly because there is an heir of authenticity to the rest of the recipes when a person knows their history. I highly recommend this book.

This is a great Afro-American cookbook, because it is written in a noncomplex style, and it is great for anyone that is just starting out as young adults or if you want to cook delicious Afro-American meals. I bought two copies of this cookbook, one for me and the other one for three young relatives who have their own new apartments, and they need to know how to cook immediately. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn how to prepare meals.

Got this for one girlfriend, she still couldn't cook. But the next girlfriend knows how to use it..I help out with a few things. But this book is nice to have.
