Deadpool Classic Vol. 4

Kicking things off with the Deadpool/Death Annual '98, Deadpool is killed by Ajax and confronts the lovely Death about his Weapon X origins and how it all ties into his final battle! After that, (yes, of course he finds a way to survive!!) it follows up with issues 18-25 of the Deadpool series in which the company LL&L are preparing Deadpool to become a hero of earth and be the Mithras to stop a great Messiah from destroying all that we know and love! However, the company has some...unhero-like intentions. Finally, Deadpool appears in issue 0 and has to fight off a bunch of proto-casts of dead Marvel super-blunders!"So, within all these issues, we have art by Steve Harris, Walter McDaniel, Pete Woods, Anthony Williams, and Yancey Labat. Overall, there's nothing outright bad here with some nice art in the Annual and the 0 issue, and the same art as before in the regular issues with some cartoon-y drawings plaguing some of the panels. Otherwise, the Joe Kelly writing is fantastic with Deadpool finally getting comfortable with breaking the fourth wall and mentioning upping his comic sales and getting to the story within only a few pages. This also doesn't have the super-silly Deadpool flare that other issues have, but within the Dead Reckoning storyline, Deadpool struggles with being a hero and saving the world versus being a killer like he knows. It sacrifices humor for a real look at Deadpool's inner self and his struggles. For story-telling, this is great but for those looking for a hilarious Deadpool book, you won't find that until the very end at the 0 issue. Overall, the main story regarding the alien invader was a bit drawn out, but it worked well and involved the likes of Captain America, even! There wasn't anything outright special about this volume, although it did have the original covers and a little gallery at the end but a good read to continue the Deadpool series.

Casual Deadpool fans have a chance to explore Wade Wilsons back history, and get involved more with who Deadpool really is. Hardcore Deadpool fans(like myself) will love this book for the great writing, and making Deadpool sound and feel authentic. He is funny, wise, and know's you are reading a comic book about him, which makes it a very engaging read. i just had a problem with the art. I know this is some old Deadpool stuff, but I just don't like the art that much. It's not bad, but not really very like-able. I understand these Deadpool issues are like 15+ years old, but the art just doesn't cut it for me. I prefer the art that is done on Daniel Way's comics of Deadpool. Of course the Daniel Way material is much more modern (thus more modern looking art), so my argument on the art is kind of stupid, but just understand that this is "classic" Deadpool. Overall, I love it, and I love Deadpool.

I confess I really did not know much about Deadpool before previews for the Ryan Reynolds movie. That movie… That movie! That movie had me completely hooked on the character of Deadpool. I had to have more. I had heard that Ryan Reynolds was born to play that role, but far too often Hollywood changes everything about the beloved characters of novels, graphic or otherwise. I needed to know where Deadpool came from. To know if there was more of this character out there that I was missing. And was there ever!This particular volume, volume four, contained the issues leading up to and including "dead reckoning." As much as I have enjoyed volumes one through three, which was a whole lot... This volume in particular was riveting. I could not put it down, especially for the three issues of dead reckoning. Where have you been all my life, Deadpool?

Deadpool is told he is only person that can save Earth from a godlike destroyer and godlike warrior coming to fight and destroy Earth. Naturally he doesn't believe this at all. But everyone knows how much he wants to be a hero. After many twist and turns, and backstabbing the hero thing is put on Captain America. Along this journey Deadpool has many changes to get revenge on several people who did him very wrong in his life. A LOT of old "friends" show up out of nowhere. Very good all the way through. When you think you guessed it all they change it all again.

If all you want from Deadpool is whacky zaany fun times this isn't the volume for you. No shame in it, but this is probably the least whacky I've read the character. It's also got about the best thematic use of Deadpool, using him to explore redemption and heroism. So if you want to yuck it up, stick with Classic 2&3 or DP&C, though if you want to see a fairly mature story about Deadpool with some laughs you'll like this. It's worth noting that essentially this volume is the climax to the long arc built through the previous volumes so there's just a lot of plot going on. Personally I loved it and it helped show a lot of what's wrong with the way 'Pool is currently written, you need character not just hijinks.

SPOILERS; Deadpool kicks Captain America in the crotch! That is glorious! We finally conclude the Mithras storyline and it was good and epic. We also get the battle between Deadpool and Ajax which, if you've seen the 2016 movie, you should be well aware of who Ajax is. Plus I think this the first time that Deadpool actually breaks the fourth wall!

This is what it has all been leading up to. The story arc that Joe Kelly has created for Deadpool has been nothing short of fantastic to Read. You see how truly haunted Wade is here. How, despite all his jokes and bravado, D-man is just as conflicted as the rest of us. Dead Reckoning rivals the Age of Apocalypse (X-Men) for me... but take that with a grain of salt since I'm extremely biased towards our Merc with a Mouth.Buy this and enjoy. Buy this now.

Note: I don't do spoilers.Firstly, let my start by saying it arrived in perfect condition.Now, what can you say about Deadpool? Well, I'd forgotten just how good the character is. Unlike the Marvel Universe's major characters, he hasn't been 'done to death'. Restricted to mini series and guest appearances, Deadpool is unlike any Super-Hero in any comic you've ever read.With Hilarious dialogue, wonderfully drawn and detail filled fight scenes (keep your eye out for the things in the background), the Deadpool world is one that is filled with genuinely disturbing characters and story arcs. So be warned - this is not Spiderman or Daredevil - people get hurt, people get killed and people get to listen to Deadpool (the latter is quite probably the worst fate). I have to admit that some times I look at the front of the books to see if they are Parental Advisory or even Marvel Max. The creativeness of the production team is such that one minute I am laughing aloud, the next I'm staring in horrified disbelief and then I'm laughing again.Deadpool is also a very complex character. The more you read, the more you learn about his history and the reasons why he does what he does.The Classic series has got me hooked - so much so that I'm now getting the Deadpool Complete Collection, Marvel Now, in fact anything with Deadpool's name on it.Weakness- the story can sometimes fall second to the jokes and violence, but then again, this isn't supposed to be Shakespeare.So, unless you are squeamish and have had a sense of humour bypass, expect to be amazed. Hmm....Amazing Deadpool? Now there's a series title for you.

Deadpool has been wrestling with his Alleged destiny for the entire series with everyone from the four Ls to Blind Al pushing him in one direction or another.After many misadventures,mis steps ,losing faith and down right ass beatings deadpool finally fulfils his destiny but of course its not the one people quite expected.Everything set up in the last 2 years worth of issues comes to a head here and it is no disappointment.Of course this being deadpool nothing is as it seems .There's a healthy dose of irreverence and pop culture clutter as usual in a deapool comic, but unlike the newer stuff it can get very dark and disturbing all at the same time.So if you like your mad merc as just zany and wild ,avoid this, but if you like him crazy funny and with a serious undertone buy nowSmall disclaimer: youll definitely need the other volumes first or the old back issues.N.b watch out for the rochambeau ref

Husband loves these, though they are pricey. Bought for birthdays and Christmas each year.
