Works well and fairly gentle
I have a dog with LOTS of fluffy hair and a thick undercoat (a collie) so finding good tools to deal with that fur is a challenge. I'd had another dog owner recommend a Furminator and I tried that. It worked really well - BUT it seemed to cause my dog a fair amount of discomfort. Then my son sent me a review of this product saying it worked well and was more gentle than the Furminator, so I decided to try one.And I totally agree. This works great. It pulls out all the loose hairs beautifully, at least as well as the Furminator, and it definitely seems more gentle. My dog is less stressed by it, and you don't *feel* the sharp tug on the fur that you do with the Furminator. The reason I only give it 4 stars instead of 5 is because of the one thing the Furminator definitely does better. When you use one of these products on a dog like mine it only takes about 5 seconds to totally fill up with hair. On the Furminator that's no problem. There is just a button to push that ejects all the hair right into the trash or wherever you want it to go.No button with the product, so you have to stop and pull all the fur off by hand. Not a huge deal, but definitely a drawback compared to the Furminator. So it gets 4 stars and not 5.

Does a great job, start with a tool with fewer blades
This tool does a great job removing excess fur off of a dog's coat. I have a heeler mix that has a very soft, downy undercoat. We usually shave her in the summer, but it is a multi-day process so I thought I would try this tool out. It removes GOBS of hair! Only trouble is that her undercoat is a bit matted/tangled. Not horribly, just naturally the hairs tend to interweave. Anyway, I am going to try the 6 or 8 blade tool to get a lot of the tangles out, then come back with this tool to remove more hair and finish up. I am hoping this tool allows us to avoid the shave and cuts down on shedding. I will update the review on how it works out.I "dinged" this tool one star because of the nature of the tool... it picks up a lot of hair, and you will remove hair from it every 5 to 10 seconds as you groom your dog. I don't know that the design of the tool could be improved to avoid this though. The curved (almost hook-like) blades do a great job removing hair while being gentle on the dog. The downside is that you have to remove a lot of hair from the tools frequently.

Master Grooming Tool Stripper for German Shepherd Dog
I was searching online for a stripping tool since my 6 month old German Shepherd Dog started blowing his coat. While I was initially interested in the Furminator, I was turned off by it for a few reasons. First, when I saw the Furminator tool that my friend had for only a few months, it was already missing a lot of tines after only a few uses. I looked online to see how much the replacement heads for the Furminator was and realized that there were not a lot of options for replacing it, and the price on the options that were available was almost as much as purchasing a new Furminator altogether. Another turn-off for the Furminator was that the tines on the Furminator are very sharp and do not curve under like the Master Grooming Tool stripper. I feel like a slip of the hand or too much pressure could really hurt my dog with it. So I found the Master Grooming Tool stripper and have used it on my dog with success. I run the stripper through him weekly or whenever his coat is seeming unruly. While a lot of undercoat came out the first time I used it, not a lot has come out since then. I hope that means it's working! My house is still filled with puppy hair everywhere, but I have seen a noticeable difference in his coat and am beginning to see *less* hair around the house. He was a little squirmy the first time I used it, but now that I give him treats after each brushing, he seems to tolerate it better. While he's still a puppy, it takes me about 30 minutes to use the tool on him and I only expect the process to take longer as he grows. Thus, the only negative thing I have to say about the tool is that I wish it were bigger, but it nonetheless does what it says it does and has worked well for me and my pup.

GREAT TOOL - I WAS OVERWHELMED BY CHOICES BUT THIS WAS THE RIGHT ONE
After spending a ridiculous amount of time researching something called stripping for this dog's wiry rough thick undercoat which apparently is not supposed to be shaved I saw a lot of positive feedback on this tool. There were ones that were far more expensive, some made in Europe, some made for left-handed people, and so on. Finally I hit click and this arrived at the front door this morning. The terrier can be... well, she's a terrier, so, you know (!). So I let her sniff around it, then I used it to "comb" the other two little dogs who have very short coats (one a dachsund). To them it was just a massage and they loved it, so the terrier became interested and let me use the tool on her the way (I think) it's meant to be used. I had no problem getting it through her coat, and a ton of hair came off. The tool is very easy to use. The blade is curved and not at all sharp enough to have to worry about hurting the dog by accident, which is nice. The handle is comfortable and easy to use. Since this was the first time, the dog still needs a good amount of combing but she tolerated it way better than I expected which is a great testimonial for this tool. I'm not a show dog person, the dog is not matted, so the million dollar tools are not called for here. If you are looking to keep your dog comfortable while staying true to the dog's coat as nature intended, I think this is an excellent choice.
