Excellent book. Had heard of it. But better than expected. Lots of excellent pictures. Intro into mineral characteristics is simple and terse but some interesting facts clear and concise. So not for an intro into minerals. More for some great pics of specimens. Very glad pulled the trigger on this book.

Superb photos of some of the best mineral specimens in the world. Highy recommended even just for the photos alone.

Good pricing for a good product

This book is a wonderful place to start learning about minerals or a beautiful compendium of knowledge for the expert. Most of us will never own the all the minerals shown, or specimens half as beautiful as the ones illustrated. The introduction was very useful when preparing a lecture for non-scientists recently. As a geologist I love this book for it's great photos and info. For novices and experts alike, it is a great book and knowledge center.

This was a present for my 10 year old grandson who insists on visiting the Rocks and Minerals Gallery at the Royal Ontario Museum each time we visit. The images in the book are from the extensive collection and represent them very well. It's fun and absorbing just to enjoy the beautifully photographed rocks, minerals and gems. Equally absorbing is the documentation that accompanies the images.

My favourite gem and mineral book that I have on my bookshelf.Most gem and mineral books are great reference manuals, but this is both beautiful and informative.The photographs are large and colourful & it is a nice high quality that feels nice to flip through.It is nice to have a book that showcases some of the finest pieces in existence, some of which you can even see in person at the ROM.
