A Magic Battle
Fairytales are often the best vehicles for analogy and Chained Freedom is no exception. Natasja Hellenthal's deceptively simple tale of a woman traveling from town to town entertaining others with her true story about escape from a dark wizard, cloaks a variety of deeper themes, freedom, imprisonment, and the evolution of the soul among them. As her main character Tana narrates her personal story to simple villagers, her desire to wake the people to evil and unite them against the wizard could also be seen as a metaphor for social and political revolution.Well written, Chained Freedom flows smoothly from start to finish and for all its potential messages, is still, at its heart, an engrossing fantasy novella.

Freedom versus Imprisonment
Tana Woodwolf holds the attention of the townspeople with her story. It's not a fairy tale; it's a true story. And it's her story. With his magic, the Wizard transports people to his remote tower. He forces them to work the land and serve his needs.Current prisoners pass on information to the new prisoners. First, do not try to escape. Second, if you do try to escape, the magical shield will stop you. And third, do not bring yourself to the attention of the Wizard. From time to time, prisoners are summoned to the Wizard's living quarters. They are never seen again."We had to provide for our own food and needs; if not we would simply wither away and die. Those were the options; live or die while we waited for our unknown destiny up there in the tower, which was most likely death."Natasja Hellenthal's Chained Freedom is a short yet powerful paranormal mystery/fantasy. An important lesson is people many times fashion their own prisons. And they hold the power to free themselves.

Shattered Dreams and Reality?
Chained Freedom by Natasja Hellenthal is a surreal fantasy novella focused on Tana Woodwolf, a young woman questioning the reality of the world she feels confined in. She lives with her mother in a rural setting where people earn their living by the sweat of their brow in the fields of labor beyond their village. Yet she wonders just how much control of their lives they actually enjoy, and soon discovers there are external forces at work that not only manipulate but victimize the residents of her community.Hellenthal continues to explore the parameters of her Comyenti fantasy, this being a follow-up to her ground-breaking Call Off The Search. In this installment, we find a clever shift in reality as Tana and her companion, Fay Rosinhill, realize they are living in a virtual goldfish bowl where a mysterious wizard watches from a mystical tower, the existence of which her fellow villagers are unaware of. The girls find a way to access the tower, yet realize their grip on reality may be threatened by crossing the magical plane. We can perceive the psychological tension in the notion of losing one’s grip on established reality by crossing over and taking the risk of never coming back. Once again, the author takes us along an uncharted course that takes us to the next level of the fantasy genre.Chances are that this installment may become a segue to further adventures of Tana and Fey, so I suggest you pick up both Call Off The Search and Chained Freedom by Natasja Hellenthal. Get yourself up to speed and enjoy the ride.

I loved this!
I just finished chained Freedom last night. I have been very busy lately, so much so that I reluctantly could not get back to this book! Don't you just hate it when you want to do something, and you can't?Tana, has amazing strength! She is pulled away from her farm, after she argues with her mother, to be put to work for an evil wizard! Wizard peaked my interest straight away! I got the feeling that there really is no wizard! What??? Just saying! Every time someone did something bad they were pulled to the wizard! Maybe he was eating them or using their souls for the energy? I'm telling you this book makes you think and think. I was intrigued by how uplifting Tana was for all those poor captured souls! My dad was a farmer when he was young, as I was growing up he used to tell me stories about how rough it was to farm back in the pioneer days. This story made me remember my dads stories. I loved how Natasja Hellenthal put the be nice, be helpful, it pays off in the end value to this story. I believe as a fellow author of fantasy, that our books are an extension of who we are, what we believe in, mixed with a nice twist of who we could have been maybe. The finding a way out in this book was designed beautifully! I can honestly say I am a fan!Awesome Job Natasja, I hope mine is as good as yours. :)
