Nice book but poor shipping
Great book with a nice story for the recipes. Book is laid out beatifully with written element, recipe and photos arranged to keep your interest. Rachel is great at this!TOO BAD AMAZON NOW SHIPS ITS BOOKS IN BUBBLEWRAP WHICH ALLOWS THE CORNERS AND SPLINE TO GET DAMAGED IN TRANSIT. LOOKS. LIME I WILL SOURCE MY BOOKS ELSEWHERE BECAUSE OF THIS.

No dust jacket, weak spine - Wonderful recipes.
The content of Rachel Khoo's new cookbook looks wonderfully delicious. However, the hard cover book does not come with a dust jacket and the spine of the books seems weak. I don't expect that it will last as long the other 4 Rachel Khoo cookbooks I own. All of those came with a dust jacket and have solid bindings. The publisher is the same, so I think that Penguin is trying to cut corners.

A little bit of Swedish Kitchen in Africa
I simply love this book, am excited to start including these recipes in our home! Living in sunny Africa it will be interesting to recreate these recipes originating in such a different and snowy country! The introduction and photos of each recipe are delightful and inspiring! Well done... greetings Andrea

Interesting perspective on life and especially cooking in modern Sweden.
I ordered the book because it appeared to be appealing for young people interested in Sweden and in Swedish

Swedish food made easy
I've been a huge fan of Rachel for years and an even bigger fan of Swedish culture since childhood. I got the printed copy of this book from Amazon UK. This book is another culinary journey that is similar to her earlier books on French cooking. It's not an entire compilation of Sweden but does have certain dishes that are unique to certain regions. So far, I've only made two recipes. I made a variation of the Västerbotten pie (sort of like a cheese quiche with onion and chanterelle mushrooms) with mature cheddar because the västerbotten (a Swedish cheese) was impossible to locate. It's a good recipe and wasn't difficult to make. The roasted butternut squash waffles sounded unusual but were actually pretty good. The only con I found was that the squash makes the waffles a bit squishy. They weren't crispy waffles but it was an interesting take on waffles. The recipe uses fresh butternut squash (that is roasted and then pureed) and doesn't give instructions on a canned equivalent. I used canned squash and the recipe was fine. There are 4 sections in the book for each season. The layout is more user friendly because I think it's easier to cook based on what's in season. The book is pretty salad heavy. There are lots of "bun" recipes (cardamon buns, black pudding, apple and cheese, St. Lucia etc.) . Of course, there's a recipe or two for meatballs. Unlike her previous books, there are quite a lot of vegetarian and gluten free recipes. I am not the latter but do appreciate meat free dishes once in awhile. My only complaint so far is that I would have liked a source list. The book doesn't call for many ingredients that would be difficult to find (maybe except for Swedish caviar, västerbotten or knäckebröd, a type of cracker) but I wanted to have some recommendations of what to buy online since I don't live in Sweden.I think it's too early to tell how high this cookbook will rank on my list of Rachel's books ("The Little Paris Kitchen" remains my favorite out of all 6 of her books.) but I do think it's a good intro to Swedish food for an English-speaking audience. The writing style feels very warm and personal with insights into her home life in Stockholm and new family. I think this book is less commercial than her last cookbook and it lacks her classic illustrations so if you're a fan like me you'll be missing those.EDIT NOVEMBER 2018: I have upgrade my original review from 4 stars to 5 after trying a few more recipes. I made the plum tosca cake (like an upside down cake with toasted nuts on top) and coconut macaroons with melted dark chocolate that were both very easy. I don't think the recipes I've tried are complicated for new cooks and most of the ingredients are pretty easy to find.

A delightful taste of Sweden!
Rachel Khoo is well known for her Little Paris Kitchen, and her Little French Kitchen, but now she takes her little kitchen far away to beautiful Sweden. This is a lovely cookbook filled with gorgeous photos and delectable recipes. On my first flip through I saw the Hazelnut and Apple Cakes and knew we HAD to make them! I was not disappointed! We are somewhat split, though. I think they were absolutely amazing still warm from the oven, but my daughter swears that eating them cold from the refrigerator is the best way. Either way, they are a delicious morsel that leaves you wanting more.I have been craving beef stew, but the weather was just too hot. Fall has decided to come (with winter hovering right on its heels) here in South Dakota and we finally got some chilly days–perfect weather for beef stew! I opted for Rachel’s Swedish Beef Stew, and I was not disappointed. There are ingredients you normally don’t think of as being typical for beef stew (my family still doesn’t know there were anchovies in it!), but they somehow come together for a delightful dish. I love the depth the fresh ground allspice gave it. They only way I deviated from the recipe is instead of cooking the potatoes and serving them separately, I put them in the stew the way my husband likes it, and we didn’t serve the pickled beets or pickled onions, either. There are still dishes I want to make. I love Veal Saltimbocca, so I would love to try her Venison ‘Saltimbocca’, I just need to get my hands on some venison. I’m fresh out right now. The Toasted Pearl Barley Mushroom Risotto looks amazing, and I can’t wait to try the Apple and Cheese Spelt Buns. There is plenty to delight in this book. The food is such as will warm you on those cold days, or celebrate the warm ones. Pull up a chair and take a quick trip to Sweden through the pages of this book. You’ll enjoy the ride!I received a copy of this book from Trafalgar Square Publishing through IPG Books for my honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Swedish food Rachel style, yum!
I am a sucker for a good Swedish cookbook, this one is lovely. It’s chapters are the seasons and I’m so drawn to the Winter one especially. It gives me a warm fuzzy feeling, the kind I’ve had reading Laurie Colwin’s writings or Diana Henry’s Roast Figs Sugar Snow.Good mix of sweet and savoury recipes, including Rachel’s wedding cake recipe and also the gorgeous cake she made for her baby’s christening. I’ve tried two recipes, a smoked sausage stroganoff and prawn open sandwiches, but have made them both more than once! Looking forward to working my way through my bookmarked recipes. More please. 🙂

Some lovely dishes - particularly if you grow your own veg!
A nicely put together book with some interesting recipes - made me hungry and want to start cooking - which is always a good sign! The recipes we have tried have all been good - although I have to say there are a lot of pickled/onions served with many dishes - which can overwhelm some of the flavours a bit...in my opinion less of these touches would be more. It is a really good book to have around if you grow your own vegetables - as it utilises a lot of ingredients that you always have to hand in quantity. Also the recipes are interesting and varied and reasonably healthy - lower on meat and carbs options - so it is full of things that are better for you and fit with today's lifestyle. I like this book it appeals to me and the way I like to eat/cook.

Rachel Khoo Swedish Cooking.
Many followed the excellent Rachel Khoo French cooking series on TV. It is therefore a very pleasant surprise to find that she has written a book on Swedish cooking subsequent to her moving to Sweden with her new Swedish husband. The book as well as containing recipes provides insight into Swedish culture and traditions. This book is highly recommended and will make an excellent gift.
