Stands toward the top of my list of all time favorite series
This collection of “John Carter” books include:A Princess of MarsThe Gods of MarsThe Warlord of MarsThuvia, Maid of MarsThe Chessmen of MarsThe Master Mind of MarsA Fighting Man of MarsThese books were written and first published starting in 1912 going through 1931. This is a series that was started over 100 years ago and is still with us today (and still widely read) which tells you something.I began reading these books in the mid 1950s and have given each multiple reading since then. Every couple of years or so I go on a “John Carter” jag and reread each one in order, including the four books not included in this offering. These are typical adventure stories falling into the category of swashbuckling hero saves the maiden in distress. There is plenty of action; action which seldom stops from page to page.Burroughs was one of the first “world building” authors and his technique and style is still being copied to this days and it would be hard to figure out just how many current authors were influenced by what we would call ‘pulp fiction.’These books are a great read. I have collected various editions of these books for years (I actually have a first edition hardback of ‘The Gods of Mars” which is in wretched shape which I paid .25 cents for in Bangkok, Thailand years ago which I treasure. How it got there – who knows, but despite the fact it is pretty worn out I still treasure it.

Out Of Our World Adventure
This collection of the John Carter, Warlord of Mars series is actually my first exposure to the numerous works of Edgar Rice Burroughs. I purchased it through a leap of faith, alhough an inexpensive one. Mr. Rice Burroughs, like other authors I've read such as Frank Herbert, has convincingly created a unique world totally unlike our own. The reader, along with John Carter and Ulysses Paxton, is transported to the planet Mars to experience a new world of danger and adventure. On Barsoom the people wear sandals and the warriors are fitted with swords, daggers and pistols, yet there are technologies on the planet far beyond those of Earth. Along with the different skin tones and anatomies of the Martians are the wildy imaginative creatures indigenous to this world. The seas are long dead yet water is not totally foreign on Barsoom. Although the novels feature a civilization different from our own they deal with concepts with which we are very familiar: good, evil, heroism, loyalty, sacrifice, greed, redemption and, most importantly, love. These seven novels are an easy read and have provided me with hours of fun. I look forward to experiencing other worlds and memorable adventures in the works of Edgar Rice Burroughs in the future.

A good value for a classic series
I think the first three or four books (or maybe only the first two) should be required reading for everyone. This classic sets the standard for swashbuckling on another planet. But the modern movie remake does make some significant improvements on certain plot holes in Burrough's original books. The only flaw with this series in print is that eventually one comes to recognize Burrough's plot outline showing up over and over again, and it becomes predictable by the later books. Still, it was nice to finally read the entire series on Kindle, and I liked it as an educational experience and for escaping stress. The ideas are somewhat misogynistic (especially in 2019, since we understand women can do anything men can, and that they are not limited to procreation purposes only). This services its purpose as a fantasy/SF read, but be prepared to be exposed to assumptions and philosophies that reigned back in the 1890's.

Excellent EBook Collection Of The First Seven Barsoom Books
First off, this is not a review of the books themselves. Edgar Rice Burroughs' Barsoom books are widely considered to be classics of speculative fiction that have influenced everything from Superman to Star Wars: A New Hope [HD ] to Avatar (Blu-ray 3D + Blu-ray/ DVD Combo Pack) ; the last century of popular culture would be almost unthinkably different without them.Onto the eBook itself. This really is an excellent presentation of the first seven Barsoom books. It has everything that you would want it to have: the forwards to all the novels (which I understand have been excluded from some eBook versions), the glossary from THUVIA, MAID OF MARS, the rules of Jetan from THE CHESSMEN OF MARS - all present and accounted for. Typos are not entirely absent but are very few and far between (much more so than in some of the "official" publications of these books from Ballantine/Del Rey, actually). All these books are in the public domain in the United States and can be downloaded for free from various Internet sites, but the extremely reasonable asking price for this collection on Amazon makes it more than worth the purchase, in my humble opinion. If this sounds like what you're looking for, then you know what to do.

I would love to see a similar collection of his Venus series ...
Here, in one place, are most -- not all, but most -- of Edgar Rice Burroughs' classic Barsoom books. The collection is missing some of the later books which either are still under copyright or were published posthumously, such as Llana of Gathol and Skeleton Men of Jupiter, but it has the important books. Most importantly, it has the original trilogy, and that alone is well worth the price. If you read A Princess of Mars, Gods of Mars and Warlord of Mars, you've gotten your money's worth. So far those are the only three I have read, but I intend to re-read the rest at some point. Yes, re-read. Years ago, I had an extensive collection of Burroughs in paperback and I had to sell it. Now I am trying to replace it with these 99 cent collections. Besides this one, I have acquired Tarzan and Pellucidar, which even includes the posthumously published Savage Pellucidar. I would love to see a similar collection of his Venus series and his Moon Maid trilogy, as well as a collection of some of his lesser-known but still important works, such as the Lost Continent.

Damaged cover
This book which is 7 novels in one is not cheap and arrived damaged. I am returning it as it is a gift..even if it wasn’t I don’t see why customers are expected to accept damaged items., asked for replacement and its damaged too., have asked for another replacement, if this one is damaged then I’m likely to get angry. The problem is that this is a very thick and heavy book and the packaging is too flimsy.

Book
Giant slab of a book. Would be lovely if it hadn't been slapped into a non suitable box and creased all to hell.
