Very Helpful Book
I found this book really helpful for working from photos/pictures using her appliqué methods - which I tried on my own and could have used this info to do a better job.

Awesome, informative book.
I ordered this book to try to improve my sewing machine embroidery skills, and, boy, did I do that. The book is very well written, has loads of photos some to illustrate written procedures and some that will make most any sewist drool. There are a dozen projects to try with explicit instructions and photos and patterns are provided. I love this book and plan to give one to my daughter who would like to add new skills to her sewing. The projects in this book are for one who is intermediate to well skilled in sewing. While it is a wonderful book, I am afraid a novice sewist would become frustrated. But, with the excellent photos and instructions it would certainly offer a person with great desire to learn something new and most wonderful.

wonderful book
This book is a wonderful resource for those who want to combine their photography skills with their fiber arts. The photography tips are helpful and the photography in the book is amazing. I doubt I'll do the specific type of photo outings she suggests in the book, but I will incorporate her tips into my future photos in order to get the best results. Although I have done some work similar to what she shows in the book, I can see that there is still something to learn from her techniques.

Just What the Photo Doctor Ordered
Excellent book, just what I have been looking for to get ideas about how to maximize my own favorite photos in quilts. Author provides many exercises to help her student reader to practice in the field what is shown in the book. Excellent tips will enable the serious student to immediately recognize what is good and what can be improved in existing photos, and leap ahead in the ability to take more effective photos. Not stopping there, information is provided in how-to instructions about turning the images into stunning quilts. Happy that I bought this book, it's a keeper.

Needs More Information of Best Use of Photos
I take lots of photos for reference use on making art quilts and had hoped that this book would go into more detail about the best way to take photos for creating a quilt based on the photo. There is just a general description in the beginning and then most of the book is devoted to her quilt projects. Had she gone into sharing the use of various photo elements with her projects it would have been more interesting and helpful. I did like sections in the back part of the book that covered different types of "materials" that would create interesting effects on the quilt.

A must have
Love this book. Very well explained and wonderful pictures and colour. If you have no other book on design get this one, or even like me who has many, this is the one that I will always turn to. Covers machine embroidery applique, design, and the sample project pattern can be printed from the website a big plus for a kindle book. Thank you

I knew what to expect
I ordered this book as a study guide for a workshop I will be taking with the author. I like to have these guides for my library so I can refer back to them in the future. I was very pleased with the price, shipping timing, etc.

Beautifully illustrated book
A beautiful book with great clear ideas and helpful instructions. I will use it with my next art quilt. I really like the idea of making an art quilt from a photo and keep in mind when I take pictures of what the composition will be for a quilt.

Art from your own photos
Loved this book. It has some lovely images. The author gives really good tips for improving your photography with the idea of producing art work in mind. She then leads you through the process of turning your image into a stitched textile. I particularly liked the section on abstraction.

An author new to me.
A prompt to take the camera and really LOOK at the scene before me, long medium and close up views. Ideas for building skills are followed by projects and help to interpret them.
